What is it all about?

I know it’s a big thing in the US but relevance does it have? In religious terms it has some meaning but as for covering your front door in crime scene tape wearing stage make up and contributing to childhood tooth decay i just don’t see why.

As for trick and treating I get a perverse smugness when kids knock on the door and they are offered apples tangerines and kiwi fruit. Their little painted faces are a picture........

Bah Humbug?

It's a throw back to the pagan festival of samhain (sawin or sowin depending on who's pronouncing it)

It's a celebration of the end of harvest and the comming of a new season. A time belived that a doorway opens between the world of the living and departed. Kind of ties in with All Souls day and The Day of the Dead where people remember those that have passed.

I would totally subscribe to getting my kit off, dancing round a pole with a virgin at the middle of it but having a bunch of kids turn up at the door dressed in their mums dress asking for sweets is naff.

It’s just nonsense.

It's like Christmas it bears absolutely no relation to the original festival for lots of people.

It’s just another consumer festival of spending on tat.

It’s raining heavily here at the moment but still the trick or treaters darken my door!

We love it, our kids love it, our neighbours love it when we decorate the house with a new theme each year, we love it when people make the effort and come to our door dressed up.

Put a note on your door asking them not to knock

My local area is very religious so I never get any knockers *giggles childishly*

I used to have to go to the *posh* area with my kid to trick or treat. We'd only ever knock on doors that had pumpkins in windows or had decorated for it. It'd nice to have a day of fun and foolishness.

I don't get trick or treaters where I live, but I do drop some sweets off with people I know who have kids and I love to watch scary movies in the dark with my mates (second year of doing it over WhatsApp but I'm hoping next year we can pile onto one sofa again).

It's a bit of fun that I enjoy at this cold dark time of year, and has no deeper meaning for me.

I wish some adults would dress up and come to my door

There's rule that you only knock on houses that are decorated or have a pumpkin outside. They shouldn't be knocking if you haven't. They stick to that in my area.
