"Whats the issue you're having?" It could be something that you can fix yourselves. I'm an "IT guy", and I guess there's plenty of others too. Cal

"The issue is its bit booting up! It's a solid state drive so I don't have a spare one and I need some special hexagonal screwdriver to get access to any of it! " Do you get any error messages or it just won't power on? Did it start happening after anything particular (water damage etc)? LvM

"Laptop I assume …. Can you just see images but it is really dark (the light at the back of the screen has failed). Have you plugged in an external screen to see if that works (such as a HDMI to the TV)" If this works it just means your screen is shot. LvM

"So...we have laptop issues....and obviously its the one with pictures on that you would rather PC World didn't see...... Can anyone recommend any PC repair places in the North east that won't be too judgemental about any images or things that may be on there?? The in me wants to say fuck em, take it to PC world!!!" The in me DOES say fuck 'em. When I was getting ready to go to Jaydees yesterday I had bits out on the bed when someone called round to check our radiators. I didn't give a toss and just left them there.

"also, on the same vein (probably won't help your worries though) my parents this year decided to get all their VHS tapes put onto a memory stick. some of said normal family VHS memories of holidays and Christmases, accidentally got mixed up with my swinging-parents 'personal' tapes. and by the time my mam remembered, it was far too late they ended up getting a message from the seller saying they'd found 'explicit material. But it had been confirmed no m!n0rs or!ll3gal acitivty, so on this occasion they'd proceeded with no further action' mortified didn't cover it! Px " You're making us laugh here. Mr

"Nope we get no sound....no beeps...nothing. The power light and the HDD light comes on.....but nothing from the screen. I've left it for a while and tried the caps lock button etc but it doesn't light up......but the fans do keep running. And ha ha yeah in one way I'm glad everything is digital otherwise our VHS tapes would be the same ha ha...in another way...as demonstrated...its easier to lose digital material! " Does it normally beep? It is obviously a hardware issue, first step for me would be to remove the hard-disk and RAM to see if there's any change. With the RAM removed, is should Beep constantly when turned on. If is beeps try again with the RAM back in (obviously switch off when plugging & unplugging). Is it any different? I would also try the disk in another pc to see if it is accessible. 80% of the laptops I see in the state you described have failed motherboard/processor and are beyond economical repair, but the data is recovered from the drive. Cal Thanks.....its one thing getting the back off....and another knowing what you're looking at once you're in " I think it's fairly obvious, but I've been "doing IT" since the 90's. The disk will either be a box about the size of pack of cards, or a little card held in with a screw (google SSD M.2 for pics). The memory (RAM) will be a thin card 2inch by 1inch (google SODIMM for pics)... Cal
