It remains to be seen if I'm still a rugby player; teams at the lower end of the game (where one tends to end up in one's 40s) are struggling to get numbers and fixtures are being cancelled left, right and centre, so between that and being struck down by the not-Covid super cold doing the rounds at the end of last month, yet to lace on my boots since Covid stopped the 19/20 season...

Know your pain, I played for school, town and County. But then dislocated shoulder 3 games running and was advised had serious weakness in the shoulder and if continued I'd have major issues later in life.

Strange thing, 40yrs later it's my knee that's buggered and shoulder ok!

I did play rugby fro the age of 7 to the age of 31, don't play any more but watch every game I can and go to the 6 Nations games at all Stadiums, been to them all, I also enjoy the women games, they play the game with such pace, power and conviction.

9 stone 10 lbs in my prime (add 1 1/2 stone to that now !!)

Scrum Half as well

Made sure I got rid of the ball as quickly as possible

Put in my fair share of tackles

Then some hefty bastard used my knee as a launchpad. 18 stone, one foot,full weight on the side of my knee.

One scream and an ambulance ride later.... Shattered cartilage and part of the bone end covering removed..

No more rugby for me... Or running...or any sport that provides compression on the joint..

So. That was fun. Still wear rugby shorts though. Damn comfortable.

I used to play rugby. Not played in years but keep getting asked to play again but not sure the body will take it now! 2nd row and winger was my positions. Loved it and I suppose one of my highlights was playing Three Counties with a World Cup winner although back then we didn’t know that at the time
