"It’s a piece of piss. Anyone who says they “can’t do without meat” is talking tripe. I ate meat at least 6/7 times a weak, whether that be breakfast, lunch or dinner. Then a change of conscience & for my own thoughts etc I’ve stopped completely. I feel like a new person, it’s incredible. DO IT!!" Do you feel that you have less energy?

"What meat is cock meat and is spunk vegan?" Vegans can swallow semen because—for purposes of ingestion—semen is considered vegan-friendly. While sperm are alive in a crude biological sense, they are not conscious or sentient.... google says yes

"Nigela Lawson went vegan for 2 weeks and now claims it's not sustainable for her. I'm thinking of cutting down on my meat consumption from 5 days a week to 1-2 days a week and more seafood and veg, thoughts? " I did try it and it wasn’t sustainable for my body either. I already lack in B12 and that’s something vegan and vegetarian will suffer and it’s recommended to take extra B12 When I did try it, my body went into shut down and I started getting mouth ulcers and felt generally Ill. So I knew it wasn’t for me. And that’s okay. I don’t eat a ton lot of meat ANYWAY. And it’s very minimal and in small quantities (usually I’d eat it like 2-3 times a week and I don’t remember when I last had red meat … but I’d definitely order a steak out if I want to ) x

There's a difference between vegan diet, and vegan. You can never completely cut out animal products. You can reduce your usage.

"We have been vegan for years and years. It’s no big deal now to be a vegan. Years ago you would have all the usual nonsense thrown at you but now people have grown up and now that it is mainstream you no longer get uninformed comments. Also bear in mind you can have a very bad vegan diet if you eat all the processed junk. Going vegan isn’t a given for a healthy eating, you have to be aware of what you are eating the same as any diet. But can tell you this, you will feel better for it. " Amen to that

"Nigela Lawson went vegan for 2 weeks and now claims it's not sustainable for her. I'm thinking of cutting down on my meat consumption from 5 days a week to 1-2 days a week and more seafood and veg, thoughts? " I've been vegan for 5-6 years.. Was veggie for 30 years before that. I think with Nigella, it's more a publicity thing - she still has books /TV programmes to push My only regret is not doing it sooner (I listened to the nay-sayers, telling me I'd die from lack of nutrients.. My mum still misguidedly tells me this, so i think it is a generation thing ) My health is better and i am stronger, and I have better energy than when I was veggie. I'd say it's very easy if it's something you genuinely want to do. You can be as healthy or as unhealthy as you like, pretty much as with any other diet! If you want to chat about it, DM me, happy to help /answer queries

"I was a vegan for many years. I could give up meat, dairy and other animal derived products but I love leather. I tend not to buy new leather, most of mine is vintage and was purchased second hand. If I see something well made at a fet market I might make an exception. Old leather is so beautiful. I have loads of tooled leather bags, cowboy boots and bullwhips that I wouldn't want to part with." I would count that as still being vegan as buying second hand is a more ethical choice than buying new.

I used to sell vintage clothing but would not stock fur, leather, wool or silk. I'm kind of an "all in" person. I meet so many vegans that wear and buy leather. If it's a health thing then cool but leather is a industry on its own not a byproduct. I eat very little meat compared to most and I ask myself if I had to kill, prepare and cook this animal could I do it? The answer is yes, cows being the hardest yet I eat less beef and tend to stick to fish and Fowl. A bit of a ramble but I hope it makes some sense

"Nigela Lawson went vegan for 2 weeks and now claims it's not sustainable for her. I'm thinking of cutting down on my meat consumption from 5 days a week to 1-2 days a week and more seafood and veg, thoughts? " I have no interest in reducing my meat intake, let alone becoming Vegan. I personally don't think that a vegan diet itself can provide everything that I need. On the other hand, I would whole heartedly support a return to locally sourced food and only being able to buy what is "in season". 99% of the environmental impacts that veganism would help with are caused by large industrial farming practices and globally shipped food. These would be reduced massively by returning to traditional farming methods. Cal

Any change like this wouldn't happen over night, no government would bring in a law banning all animal farming with immediate effect and without such a law it wouldn't happen at all. So let's say it is banned - with farmers given a few years notice so that the industry doesn't collapse. Animals would be sold and killed as now just in steadily decreasing numbers as farm after farm switches to growing avocado or whatever. There would be a massive upheaval and job loss in many parts of the country, upland Britain simply isn't suitable for farming anything other than sheep. Short term this would lead to significant social deprivation in many areas (think of the mine closures that whole communities still suffer from). Longer term, much of the uplands would once again become forested, we would almost certainly need to look at the reintroduction of apex predators to manage land that humans no longer have any use for. There are plenty of farms now that are run a visitor attractions with rare breeds being kept. These aren't rare breed in the sense of species going extinct, just taste breeds of domesticated animals - none of which bare more than a passing resemblance to the wild animals they are descended from. There is a real shortage of genetic diversity due to the small number of males used. It would certainly require moving animals around to prevent "inbreeding"... moving the animals about also wouldn't be "vegan". Cal

Sausage is a shape - not a meat. Burger is a shape as is a pattie..... not a meat. Plant based MEAT balls ..... shit....

"Nigela Lawson went vegan for 2 weeks and now claims it's not sustainable for her. I'm thinking of cutting down on my meat consumption from 5 days a week to 1-2 days a week and more seafood and veg, thoughts? " I don’t eat dairy or processed meat but do still eat meat. Watch “what the health” on Netflix!

"Not the old 'lack of vitamin' argument again ... !ffs. Anyone would think that the vitamin industry sprang up last year to support the poor y vegans.... The vitamin industry has been thriving for years for all those that never eat fruit or veg or enough protein..... B12 is put into feed so that your MEAT has it in it. Vegans get it in plant form or tablet or liquid form. " I have B12 in my meat

DO IT!! No" I think the issue with these types of threads is that they invariably become a series of anecdotes. There will be vegans saying that they're more healthy than they've ever been and others saying they tried and got ill, this last group then get told they didn't have the "right" vegan diet Can you live a vegan diet? Yes absolutely. You have to have B12 supplements - anyone telling you this is found in certain foods is taking bollocks, it is in those foods as a supplement (yeast is the classic example of this, it doesn't naturally produce b12). However, to make a vegan diet work requires a great deal of attention to ensuring you get the correct amount of various nutrients which in turn means a careful selection of food. Any diet where you pay this level of careful attention to what you eat and select meals specifically to ensure the correct balance of nutrients will make you feel better than the standard processed crap we mostly eat now. This effect is then hailed as being all about going vegan rather than making life changing alterations to how you view food. It isn't, you feel better because you're eating a balanced diet - and one that doesn't contain the known poisons that are used to preserve processed meat. Are there arguments for going vegan from an animal welfare point of view? Absolutely. Are there arguments from an environmental point of view? Absolutely. Are there arguments from a health point of view? No. There are studies that give a correlation with lower risk of certain illnesses but these are not controlled for by comparing vegan with an equally carefully controlled non vegan diet - there simply aren't enough non vegans who take the same level of care to ensure their diet provides everything. This type of study requires long term information from thousands of test subjects and such data with all variables controlled for simply doesn't exist. Also, these studies are only ever for specific diseases, not life expectancy as a whole - I have been reading lately about efforts to correlate this but the data is inconclusive and full of potential problems. " Look for the impact on cardiac health in Norway during WW2, when their dairy output was taken by the Germans for their war effort. (It’s in one of the documentaries I’ve referred to earlier) A lot of the “modern diet” information is pushed on us by big business.

"I can promise you that grass fed pasture raised livestock production is absolutely essential for the well being of the planet and human survival. Anybody disagreeing with that doesn't know enough about agriculture and soils. Period." Interesting. Please qualify your argument. How can the death of an animal be essential for the planet?

Can you not see the irony of what you've just said ?? . Do you not understand basic biological cycles ? What do you think happens to human bodies when they are buried ? It's all part of the cycle. Millions of animals die every minute all over the planet and all contribute to the natural cycle of things, whether they are eaten by humans, other animals or maggots. Grim but natural.

" If what you inferred is what I thought, yes, but it isn’t. I was asking why animal livestock production is essential for the planet and, for the record, the eventual waste isn’t nicely buried in graves. We are talking about animals as a PRODUCT. So, for clarity, Why is the creation and eventual destruction of an animal essential to the planet?

"How so? I don't think vegan options are as enriched with protein as meat. Although there are good vegan options for healthy fats and carbs. There are three documentary films I always recommend: 1. Game changers 2. Forks over knives 3. Cowspiracy Watch, learn, and do your own research." I second this
