"I watched all episodes of Squid Game. It is by far the best series I have seen for some time. It would all depend on 'how' you watch t.v. progs. What your expectations are that will determine whether you give it thumbs up or not I guess. People who watch simply for special effects may be hugely disappointed. The programme kept my attention mostly due to the way it enquires into the human condition and the worthlessness of human beings to themselves and the societies in which they live. I thought suspense - cleverly built into each episode through unlikely friendships and the behaviours of individuals and groups on facing moral dilemmas compelling. The main characters were believable causing the viewer to care whether they lived or died and to loathe the more detestable. Themes such as racism, sexism and ageism were tackled openly with women being left standing when teams were picked and similar treatment for the old man and men percieved as weak. The fickleness of human characters was brought to the fore demonstrated by dog eating dog where once frienships had thrived. Parallels were easily drawn through observation of the 'troopers' and their blind obedience to kill or be killed, their human instinct for survival .... evidenced many a time in real times of war. The corruption of the rich, who so wealthy and bored think it sport to watch the destitute struggle and die ... this to me was no different than what happens every day under the unsuspecting eyes of social media users and fake news fanatics - too blind to see themselves as fodder as long as they have enough for trout lips , tombstone teeth and a t.v. Those desperate enough to play the squid game , grasping for cash , wanting to end their troubles and live with a loving family only to find - when they got home - that they were too late. If that wasn't a message to say that we should love our families and spend as much time with them as we can , I fail to see what would bring that message home. On experiencing just that fate, the main character no longer has the need for the money he almost died for and gives it to the mother of his once friend who still think that her son will come home one sunny day. True friendships were formed in that hell .... just as they are in all times of hardship. People laying down their lives when they understood that others had more chance of survival or that their own chances on the outside were not attractive and they had no desire to return to reality. For them death within the games was preferable. I viewed squid game as a natural extension to the 'games' that people now play on line ..... war, killing, greed, profit, ..... I likened it to ..... Life on earth ...... just a game... you win or you lose and there is only one chance. And no God to save you........ A line that stays with me is ...... You do it horses... we do it with you.... you are our horses. I don't enjoy gore but squid game is less gory than reality. People are shot or fall from great heights for not obeying rules or for losing the game - In reality this happens every day on a much grander scale. A final interesting aspect for me was the absolute 'morality' and attendance to fair play by the owners/devisers of the game. Cheating was not allowed, nor was violence, nor cowardice. Just like war generals who sit on the side and claim themselves entitled gentlemen by birth ...... fair play chaps. Excellent series. I enjoyed Parasite too.... must look out for more Korean productions. " Blimey Granny! That was DEEP! Very well put if I may say so to

"Apparently it’s better to watch it with subtitles than English converted version. X" No! The subtitles are awful, miss a lot of what is actually being said and as such miss a lot of the context and meaning. The dubbing is... interesting, but it works well if you think of it as live action Anime, and is much better translated.

"GC has articulated the Squid Games perfectly. It's a show where you get out what you put in to it, and if you make a concerted effort to identify the themes and the social commentary, you'll derive greater depth from it. It's not a popcorn and disengage brain type of affair. There are an almost infinite amount of other programs like that, so it is nice to have something a bit deep and eclectic for a change. I'd almost make it part of the National Curriculum. (The story...NOT the games !) " I just found it a bit predictable. The episode with the 4th game was good as that really moved me and totally took me by surprise. A lot of the rest of it I could guess before it happened though.

"Not watched it either. Sounds like a mixture between Battle Royale and Running Man. If that's right I might watch it. I like both of those and bought the 4k Battle Royale recently." Battle Royale is amazing!! Squid Game is a fairly similar concept to that in that the last one standing wins. I enjoyed it, did watch with subtitles rather than dubbing though, hate dubbed audio!

"Apparently it’s better to watch it with subtitles than English converted version. X" Trouble is, they are nothing like the English dubbing too... A. Company with as much income as netflix could have done so much better than the current dubbing /subtitles

I knew there was something a bit dodgy about the old guy (player 001) as he knew how to play all the games so it made sense when he reveals he created the whole thing and wanted to experience playing it himself before he died.
