It's not as nice as home baked fresh. I had to stop making bread as I would start out with just one slice of the warm fresh loaf and somehow there wouldn't be any for toast.

I know the feeling, when I bake bread none ever seems to be left over for toasting. The gannets get in quick this end...

that happens whenever I bake, I have to make two batches, one gets eaten as soon as out the oven the other can then be left alone for a bit later ........ definite gannets here too lol

The feeding of the cake is a really important element. My mother used to make black cake for Christmas and there was a strict rum feeding regime.

my brother at aged 9 used to cut slices off the cake from the bottom up - and then realised one day the cake was rather thin - so left the door open and the lid half off so the dog got it and took the blame - I only told my mother about this last year and she fell about laughing ..........

We had a taster cake, the ones for other people and the Christmas cake. The taster was fair game but I would not be here today if I had touched the others.
