"Does anybody care about our planet except Greta Thunberg and Insulate Britain? Do you support them in their efforts to block rush hour traffic every single day? " I dont like greta personally, “dont like” a bit harsh, lets say “I dont approve her style”. You cannot change people by making them annoyed, or angry. And also personal changes contributes little to environment. If you stop using plastic all of the sudden, it doesnt make any change at all. They need to fight with corporations.

"Does anybody care about our planet except Greta Thunberg and Insulate Britain? Do you support them in their efforts to block rush hour traffic every single day? " I feel that the Insulate lot are doing more harm than good with their disruptive tactics. There are more effective and constrict ways to further a cause. And I think a lot of people are bored with greta’s rehearsed rage. Again, more effective and constructive ideas are needed.

"I think they are both well meaning but the way Insulate Britain go about things is counter productive, selfish and arrogant. I do think it's time for the police to step up and do their job before somebody gets seriously hurt. As for Greta, I do think it's good that we are talking and considering the environment more than in previous generations. My issue with her is that all she seems to offer is anger and problems rather than workable real world solutions." I think Greta (and everyone tbh) has a right to be angry with the way corporations and governments have done nothing. More adults should be angry about it rather than just being complacent and doing nothing. As for her offering solutions, it's not really her job and you don't need answers to know something needs to change.

And also personal changes contributes little to environment. If you stop using plastic all of the sudden, it doesnt make any change at all. They need to fight with corporations. " I disagree. Let's say she has the great good luck that she approaches a CEO of a corporation and actually gets an interview, further, she convinces them that there needs to be change. The CEO takes it to the board and the shareholders and says this is the right thing to do but it'll see our profits slashed - just how effective will that be? Corporations are only controlled by two influences, the laws of the countries in which they operate and market forces. Laws are made by politicians who are voted in by the public. Ultimately then the only people with the power to change the behaviour of corporate entities are the consumers and voters - exactly the people you say can't change anything. Mr

"Gretta is a little girl with brilliant intentions, so I hope. But who is she to preach to people when she hasn't a clue about life." That's an ageist assumption. She's well informed on what she preaches, far more so than most people who get on their soapboxes. Perhaps she hasn't "got the answer" but she's raising awareness of the need to care, which can only be good.

She's making a noise and getting people talking about the issues. Her ideas may be too big, but sitting on our arses doing nothing, saying nothing and ignoring the situation would never make a difference. Now, partly due to her, there is more awareness and more people are speaking out. This 'will' having an affect at corporation and government levels as they all want to please the public and so they are starting to look at the things they 'can' actually change.

"Like I said brilliant ideas. Most of us have ideas and values to try and make things better. She got the centre stage with hers and tried to preach. As for her age, "wisdom comes from experience"." Sometimes yes, but experience does not equal age. Who has the most experience of growing up in today's society, with all of our technology, lack of space and lack of freedom to play? That would be the younger generation. Then often the elder generation has become complacent, jaded, stuck in their ways and lost the will to fight. No one truely wise would ever ignore the opinion of another just because of their age or background. They would embrace the chance to learn and expand what they know and believe. Same here. Don't write her off. Listen to her, take what she's saying and build on it. Maybe 'you' could then be the one to come up with the solutions.

"Greta Thunberg at 18 years of age is an impressive campaigner and has social values that are bringing about a change in the old guard on a global scale. As per every successful human she will have many who will judge, as in this thread, judgement on her looks, age, how she travels, who writes her speeches and so on. If people put aside their bias and look at the facts, she is doing a remarkable job on a world stage. How many here can boast doing more in their field of work?"

"What is laughable is the fact that we are in the back end of an ice age. The temp has increased by a negligible amount over the last 400 yrs but this is cyclical and happens every 1000 yrs which itself is part of a 100,000 Yr temperature cycle. They are the lowest levels, as measured in sea ice, for 350million years. Mr" These are not world experts. They are not recognised in any of the areas that study global warming. If you watch Dr Moore he will say that no real scientist will agree that we are warming the earth. Yes we have increased CO2 levels from critically low levels at a faster rate, however, in the billions of years of the cycle of the earth, it is nothing. The planet has frozen and defrosted many times. The tide has been metres higher and there are towns miles away from water that used to be docks. We have been here for a tiny percentage of this planets existence and it will go on well after us. I do not argue thatwe have not ravaged the resources and forced many species to extinction. I just say that no real scientist would say that humans are CAUSING global warming. We are a small factor of consideration.

Alexander the Great was 20 when he became king, over the next 10 years he conquered the largest empire the world had ever seen. Just because the majority achieve very little while they are young, this is a correlation not a causation. There are plenty of young people who have made astounding changes to the world. This comment shows the ignorance of dismissing someone based on an irrelevant factor rather than on what counts which is what they do/say/achieve. I'll listen to arguments that attack these, not those that attack her age, colour, sex, hairstyle or anything else irrelevant. Mr But her ideas aren't her own. She's just a PR puppet. Sometimes you can tell that she's repeating points that her PR people have sent to her earpiece Can you? Really? Go and take a look. It's obvious I see a very intelligent woman, who suffers from Aspergers managing to speak to large crowds (something many people wouldn't be able to do). Even if she has the occasional prompt, then so be it. Do you know of 'any' public speaker, that doesn't have an autoqueue or ear piece to keep them on track? It's good practice for public speaking and doesn't mean anything. " Do you also believe that she launched a genuine 'school strike' and all the rest of it? It was all orchestrated by a PR company. Who paid for the pr company?

It is absolutely terrifying and I'm dyslexic so whilst it's not the same as Asperger's I understand why she talks a staticly because it's exactly what I do in this kind of situation. "What is laughable is the fact that we are in the back end of an ice age. The temp has increased by a negligible amount over the last 400 yrs but this is cyclical and happens every 1000 yrs which itself is part of a 100,000 Yr temperature cycle. Our CO2 levels are critically low and were, before we started using fossil fuels, close to the levels where plants would struggle to survive. They are the lowest levels, as measured in sea ice, for 350million years. But, modern mans arrogance and corporations and government looking for the next squeeze, have led us to believe we are killing the planet. The planet is getting greener and healthier as a result of CO2 rises. But you won't hear about it in the media. Thumberg knows literally nothing about ecology. If you want to know what you are talking about and be able to measure the bullshit of the media, go to YT and look up Dr Patrick Moore. He was a founder of Green peace and is an actual scientist. Don't be beholden to children when you have an adult conversation. And you disagree with the majority of the worlds experts based on what exactly? A few regurgitated ideas you got off YouTube? Mr These are not world experts. " It is now referred to as climate change. I have took some time to look at Patrick Moore, I hadn't heard of him until you posted. I have found Greenpeace have distanced themselves form him, stating he is using connections to Greenpeace which are often exaggerated to promote his credentials. They have gone to extraordinary lengths to debunk his claims, which I was not expecting at all from your post. The nail in the coffin is a very harsh summary of his work with polluting companies around the world.

"Does anybody care about our planet except Greta Thunberg and Insulate Britain? Do you support them in their efforts to block rush hour traffic every single day? I dont like greta personally, “dont like” a bit harsh, lets say “I dont approve her style”. You cannot change people by making them annoyed, or angry. And also personal changes contributes little to environment. If you stop using plastic all of the sudden, it doesnt make any change at all. They need to fight with corporations. I disagree. Mr" You are totally right. What I meant there (at least try to mean that) your effect would be so little if you start living environmental-friendly. Instead starting to fight with corporations as you pointed out would be more beneficial imho. We need to remember and understand that politicians and corporations are our bitches.

The only things I've seen that people say that about are things which have credible arguments from both sides, because we just do not know. But I would personally side with the side which could lead to a better planet, even if it wasn't required. Yes, big money can and has been in politics for many years and buys public opinion. "Does anybody care about our planet except Greta Thunberg and Insulate Britain? Do you support them in their efforts to block rush hour traffic every single day? " To be honest a little 2 faced in my eyes. insulate it yes but what with. composite stuff is a waste product that dosnt compose or degenerate. other insulation is better glass fibre is roughly the same. lambs wool is a good one but has issues. paper has issues fire hazard. So whats right and whats wrong to use comes to mind. To be honest we are being forced to use composite material like the greenfel fire in our homes. This gives a good example with it remeber you only have 1/2 hr on plasterboard ceilings after that your getting this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJAWPfZzIKY

Wow" It's also been shown to be correct many times. It all depends on who you listen to. My thoughts are that I'd prefer to do something about the environment now, because if climate change is false, all we end up doing is making our environment nicer, but if it is real we could save the planet. As opposed to doing nothing, because if climate change is false nothing changes, but if it is real we fuck the planet up for ourselves. So whilst people disagree about the realities, I want to take the course of action that has less negative possibilities.

Honestly, if you chose to learn about climate change, and the causes, you'd be able to form an opinion based on a greater level of understanding. Then you could argue your position, instead of trying to just ridicule people who have some knowledge on the subject. As it stands, you appear to be arguing from a place of deliberate ignorance. Choosing to "believe" an unscientific angle, instead of choosing to understand the science. Why would you not want to learn about what's going on, especially seeing as you seem to have strong opinions on it.

It's obviously hard to come up with an exact figure, but so.e surveys 'have' shown it to be 99%. Generally even places disagreeing with this figure are placing it at over 80%. That information is all freely published and accessible and the way the numbers were reached examined for you if you care to look for yourself.

It seems to be causing you confusion. To be clear, there is no debate about the causes of climate change. The science behind it is observable, measurable, we can replicate and model it, and it's peer reviewed from a huge number of independent studies globally. "I'll be joining Greta on the cop26 protest march. I am well aware companies need hammered to change, however consumer power speaks...if you don't buy it they can't profit from it. They will be forced to look at their strategies. Everybody needs to do their bit, everyone of us made this mess even if it was through blissful ignorance & trust of government & private companies to actually care about the planet or the people they serve. Now back to my environmental science masters... Oh yeah 99% of climate scientists agree that human activity is the root cause of climate change by rising co2 levels since industrial age, made worse by age of tech Ha ha. You really believe that? Honestly, if you chose to learn about climate change, and the causes, you'd be able to form an opinion based on a greater level of understanding. Then you could argue your position, instead of trying to just ridicule people who have some knowledge on the subject. As it stands, you appear to be arguing from a place of deliberate ignorance. Choosing to "believe" an unscientific angle, instead of choosing to understand the science. Why would you not want to learn about what's going on, especially seeing as you seem to have strong opinions on it. The 99% claim is junk science Okay, forget about this % of scientists thing. It seems to be causing you confusion. To be clear, there is no debate about the causes of climate change. The science behind it is observable, measurable, we can replicate and model it, and it's peer reviewed from a huge number of independent studies globally. Information is widely available from a whole load of different sources. You can go and read about it. Your willful lack of understanding, is not a strong argument in the context of a scientific discussion. Ha ha, it doesn't cause ME confusion. It's perfectly clear that it's a lie. It's causing YOU confusion Are you really studying the subject? I have a honours degree in it. Yes. So I do understand the subject matter, and I understand the scientific method. Thanks for asking. Your entire argument is based on the fact that you don't understand the science. If it was me, I would take time to learn about the subject matter prior to forming a strong opinion. And do you feel you understand how the 97/99% figure was calculated? An open mind is always a good thing I have no opinion on the press reports about the percentage of scientists who understand climate change. Hope that helps to answer your question.
