Definitely worth watching at the cinema if you can.

That said, I wasn't blown away by it. Didn't like some of Villneuve's decisions with the story.

Considering the director explained what changes he made and why, it certainly wasn't bang on.

That said what was changed for the most part worked and it worked well.

Movies with too many subplots (like the book) do not do well, it's too much to fit in.

Same goes for too much world building, he cut out a lot of the galactic politics because it was too much exposition for a movie - phantom menace suffered from focusing on galactic politics.

Some characters were toned down or in some cases the talents of some actors totally wasted for how little of the movie they were in.

It is still by far the best adaption of the book, and one of the better (overall) book to film adaptions.

I liked it quite a bit, but I didn't love it. Think it is very hard to make such a complex book into a film. Were the Barons nephews in it and was one described as a Mentat? I don't recall them being mentioned. Maybe I missed that bit.

Tried it with names drags like hell a really poor effort for a remake that isnt even finished.

I (Luke) have just been to see it and I was bored from beginning to end. Yes, it's visually impressive and Hans Zimmer's score is good, but really that's about all the positive things I can say about it. I was seriously thinking of leaving the cinema part-way through.

I didn't care about anybody in it. I had no reason to. It was utterly humourless and relentlessly slow and grim. Even the fight scenes were dull. I found the whole thing utterly tedious.

I can't imagine going to see the sequel in a couple of years.

From another perspective, Hannah loved it.

London/Essex... ish... Romford to be exact

I'm surprised it is so divisive on Fab. Elsewhere the acclaim seems a lot nearer to universal.

I have no knowledge of the book or Lynch version. But as a standalone piece of work, I thought it was brilliant. The worlds created seem believable and on such a grand scale. I am led to believe that there is still a lot to pack in for the second part. Part one felt epic but is pretty much establishing a lot for part two according to a review I watched.
