Paint a big X on the surface you're painting. Then paint the triangles. It's like colouring in and makes it more fun

That doesn't work when the house is ancient and none of the walls/ceilings/door frames are straight.

Loud music and coffee normally works for me.

I have painted my kitchen half full of drink. Wouldn’t recommend it. Especially when you come down in the morning and you’ve painted footprints all over cream tiles
