My facial hair grows at a fast pace. I grew mine many, many years ago and it suits me more than clean shaven.

I have gone through varying lengths but the last couple of years I’ve kept it very short.

Yes, and of course, fashion. Beards came back in big style during the Gulf wars when lots of hard as fuck soldiers had them out of necessity. This was embraced by a load of wannabees and celebrities and it all went from there.

Why do you choose not to show a pic?

Personal choice I guess same as people choose to grow a beard it stay clean shaven. Or somewhere in between..

I grew a beard when I worked away, decided it looked quite fetching and I liked it. It protects my face from the harsh heat and wind of the Middle East as well as the weather here in the uk when I’m in the hills. Also keeps my face warm

In winter.

A more intelligent question would be why do they shave, as a beard is the natural default.

Its a bit like asking why we have two feet etc.

I grew a rather bushy beard during the first lockdown last year for something to do.

When I shaved it off, I put the whiskers on the compost heap and the birds took it for nesting.

Why do you think beards are in hygienic? If you shower in a morning and at night like most people it’s as huge if as having hair on your head or body.

I mean it’s personal choice if you want one or not.

And there’s lots of women that adore beards. I know I get lovely comments from some. Abd there’s lots of women that dislike beards!

I had to shave everyday but f my military career the only time we didn’t was in the jungle. Because then shaving becomes unhygienic as it leads to skin infections as it’s a point of infection

I first grew a goatee because whenever I even had a little stubble my ex would tell me to shave as she hated bearded men.

After we split I grew a goatee as an act of rebellion, then I met Danish who likes the goatee and encouraged it.

During lock down 1 I got bored and thought I'd let the rest of my facial hair grow to see how long it could get, then it got too itchy so trimmed it and now we are at where we are today.

I am the sort of bloke, who doesn't like the cold and clammy feel of a fresh wet shaved face.

Beards don't suit me either, as they itch as it gets past a certain length: say 10 days.

I have a face for stubble, this has be my preferred look since the 90's. So, stubble it is.

Exactly. 5pm shadow is acceptable, 5am isn't. Need to look professional and presentable, not like I've just rolled in from the night before. Hence the beard option, it's just much more practical for me.

Partially this for me too.

I also like the bearded look, mine is unfortunately at a rebellious stage and refusing to look groomed and well kept right now, no matter what I try.

I've recently gone from a full beard - for about the last 20 years - to a goatee plus stubble arrangement which I think looks OK. I did experiment with fully clean-shaven but it just doesn't suit me. I need at least a bit of five o clock shadow or I look like a startled turkey..

Initially - because I was just lazy.

Last long term partner really liked it though. However I used to shave it all off every couple of weeks.

Ironically, since lockdown I have maintained a well kept beard ever since and I think I actually prefer it now.

I was off work for 2 months about 5 years ago as the result of a bad fall and couldn't be arsed shaving. I liked the look of the beard but had a lot of comments about it so shaved it off shortly after going back to work.

A year later I grew it again and still have it because it suits me.

Hell, keeping a a beard in good condition is harder work than a quick shave each morning.

An unclean neglected beard, now that is lazy.

Trying to look hard is false folly, you can either take a punch or you can't, you can either react naturally to agression or curl up and defend, having a beard, looking hard or looking a certain way has fuck all to do with being 'tough' or thriving/surviving.

To look mysterious.

To keep their crumbs in a safe place ready to distribute to passing pigeons.

To keep their top lip warm in winter.

Because they are in a Broadway play that requires a beard and they are allergic to false beard glue.

They like the way the bottom of the beard gently rises up in a breeze like a floating magic carpet.

They can keep a pen to hand when wearing shorts in winter that have no pockets.

It acts as a wind sock.

So, so, so many reasons men have beards…..

Ironically my ex Mrs used to but I used to shave it off about once every two weeks when I went to go and get a hair cut.

Now I trim and maintain a beard that she would have loved. So, so much better off without her though!
