It’s spooky seasons and I’m trying to find a scary film to watch.

I’m looking for a film that will scare me so much I’ll regret watching it, and will be forced to sleep with the lights on.

Any recommendations?

You’re back!

I’ve seen midsommar. I saw the picture on Netflix and thought it would be an adorable flowery film about endless summer.

I’ll be talking about it in counselling at some point. That was a sleepy Sunday morning I’ll never get back.

Titanic is absolutely terrifying. It’s set on this big ocean liner in the early 1900s. I don’t wanna ruin it, but it would have been a living nightmare. Based on a true story apparently……

Scary shit

The Exorcist.

The Taking of Deborah Logan. It'll change your mind about old dears for ever and ever.

I really loved Sinister. I have an overactive imagination though. Sinister 2 is on Netflix, not as terrifying but worth a watch.

The Woman in Black. Not sure why but it really did give me that adrenaline of fear.

Happy watching, witch

That’s the best bit, gets you thinking real or not.

For me real to Tommy & Austin enough for their demise but a lot in their minds of what Jane conjured up, ie there was no storm that knocked out the power or bought down the tree blocking the exit. Jane isn’t quite dead, but is.

I make no claims to these being good or bad movies but based on your standards are scary. Not all are Halloween horror

The descent

The babadook

Heresitary

The Strangers

Roadkill -- certainly not scary for most

Wolfe creek

Buried -- also not directly scary

Ma -- not scary at all but it's you!

Don't breath

Crawl -- better than expected

Elephant

It is a 1989 British short film directed by Alan Clarke and produced by Danny Boyle. The film is set in Northern Ireland during the Troubles and its title comes from Bernard MacLaverty's description of the conflict as "the elephant in our living room" — a reference to the collective denial of the underlying social problems of Northern Ireland. Produced by BBC Northern Ireland, it first screened on BBC2 in 1989. The film was first conceived by Boyle, who was working as a producer for BBC Northern Ireland at the time.[1]

The film, which contains very little dialogue, depicts eighteen murders and is partly based on actual events drawn from police reports at the time. It is shot with 16mm film with much of it filmed using a steadicam and features a series of tracking shots, a technique the director used regularly. The grainy 16mm film, together with the lack of dialogue, plot, narrative and music give the film a cold, observational documentary feel. Nothing is learnt about any of the gunmen or victims. Each of the murders is carried out calmly and casually; in one scene the gunman is seen to drive away slowly, even stopping to give way for traffic. Most of the vignettes end with the camera lingering on the motionless body of the victim.

As with several of Clarke's films, Elephant received high praise and attracted controversy. After watching the film, Clarke's contemporary David Leland wrote: "I remember lying in bed, watching it, thinking, 'Stop, Alan, you can't keep doing this.' And the cumulative effect is that you say, 'It's got to stop. The killing has got to stop.' Instinctively, without an intellectual process, it becomes a gut reaction."[2]

The film is a clear influence on Gus Van Sant's 2003 film Elephant, based on the Columbine High School Massacre. Van Sant's film borrowed not only Clarke's title, but also closely mirrors his minimalist style.[3][4]

Xtro (if you like The Omen, The Thing and Alien)

This is a 1983 British science fiction horror film directed by Harry Bromley Davenport. Starring Bernice Stegers, Philip Sayer, and Simon Nash, the film focuses on a father who was abducted by aliens and returns to his family three years later, where he goes in search of his son. Production of the film started and completed in February 1982. The film received largely negative reviews, though the special effects were praised.

I would say drag me to hell, put me off of scary films for a long time. Its the old lady appearing in the bed and car that got me.

My husband always says that paranormal activity 2 freaked him out when the kid gets lifted out of his cot.

The children a British film about kids turning savage on the parents was also a very freaky film.

I really like both Quiet Place films, The Silence and Bird Box are both on a similar theme and enjoyable (although Id recommend the book version of The Silence over the film).

The original Night of the living dead takes a lot of beating as an all round quality creep fest.
