Well done you!

Every journey starts with small steps. You'll be taking strides before you know it. I'm here for the long haul as I have to lose half my body weight to be securely in the health weight category

Mine involved too many naps

Work is pretty physical, do about 20k steps a night, and lots of lifting 10-16kg boxes. Nights should make it easy to avoid Xmas food too.

Porridge again this morning, that’s two times this week, I’m going to buy some to take to work. Instead of eating both chicken legs tonight, I’m going to take one into work tomorrow for lunch.

Have you looked at some overnight recipes online?

I found I hated cooking oats and eating them hot, but letting them soak overnight and mixing in some PB made them much more enjoyable for me

I haven’t, but then I love hot porridge, especially in the winter. I might take a look though, thank you.

Views on baked oat recipes?! I feel like they're a slimming world hangover but now it's getting colder I quite fancy trying them. Trouble is a lot of them are chocolate or 'treat' food based and I am trying to get my snacking under control. Not sure that would help?!

I’ve been doing some walking, I’ve reduced my portion sizes and swapped some of the crisps and sweets for salad snacks, like cherry tomatos and raw cauliflower

Small steps but I do feel better even just doing this.

Since April I’m 40lbs down

Had taken up running again at the start of

last month but I’ve torn the ligament in my knee - just as I managed to run a 5k with ease! luckily it’s a partial tear so I’m hoping not too long out of the running game.

I’d love some ideas of alternative exercise. I’ve tried walking and it bores me even with my music on!

Keep pushing everyone! Great job

Swimming can be a good re hab exercise just make sure you clear it with your Dr. I have torn my ACL in my right knee and was told stability exercises were good to build up the muscles around the knee and stabalise it. 360 lunges are good. With ligaments it's important to keep them moving really to encourage blood flow and healing (that might be tendons thinking about it, check with your dr , I'm sure someone will correct me on here though )

That's a great start. I have found eliminating snacks, even 'healthy' ones to be not as hard as I thought and very good in terms of results. 19lb down in the last 5 weeks so far.

Tendons = muscle to bone

Ligaments = bone to bone

Generally doctors will just say one, they don’t care which because treatment tends to be the same from them. Rest, Ice and nsaids

Typically it’s more likely to be a tendon, but you can’t rule out ligaments in the knee like the acl or mcl. Although they would normally require surgery to fix.

In short, normal doctors are shit for sports injuries. See a physio

I make overnight oats, and make enough for several days. Make a carrot cake one, so has grated carrots and spices and it's really quite nice. And fills me up all morning.

Small steps yet positive ones, more so if you can feel the benefit. During the first lockdown I was eating well and feeling great. All the crap I consume tends to consume me with a sluggish lack of energy.

Youre doing great

Mine is definitely the ACL but was never fixed as I wasn't very sporty and the recovery was horrendous from the surgery. Had to have an op to diagnose the tear in the acl though.

1lb down today! Just 1lb needed to hit 2 and a half stone x

Have a wedding today which I was worried about but going to try saving all my calories for the meal and I am driving so u don't drink a lot of calories. I only drink diet when I'm out as opposed to gin and full fat lemonade!

Also have a stressful few days ahead so lots of planning and mindful eating. Might actually start reading the chimp paradox to take my mind off things and focus my mind on what I need to be doing.

I've lost 31lbs it's taken a year but I haven't really made any effort! I got a new job that is more active and I sometimes forget to eat (which is not good!) I have 33lbs left to lose to hit the healthy weight range.

Sex is a great exercise right?

So I’m back on here he Keto diet, I know it works but i really struggle with the concept…. The more you eat the more weight you lose… I’ve never had a good relationship with food, and usually go with out food for days at a time, not healthy I know… and the more I eat the more weight I lose. Just need to get out of the mind set that eating is not a bad thing and I put weight on by not eating enough… anyone else struggle with this ? Xxx

My eating habits are the route of my problems. I never eat proper meals and then grab a crappy snack to eat because I feel I should eat something. When I do have nice, good food I enjoy it but I just like like a irresponsible teenager and don't take the time out to prepare beforehand.

Don’t be too hard on yourself and remember that weight loss is 90% diet. You can absolutely do amazing without going crazy in the gym, and at times like these where you get bad news and life kicks you a little it’s entirely ok to take a breather.

Your more than a number on a bathroom scale.

You got this.

I've lost the yard of pace this week. Trying to be chipper when I'm feeling rough and covering everyone else who off sick has put me in a pissy mood. If hit the junk and find it too easy to make excuses. Next week it's half term so I'll have plenty of time to make a plan. As the saying goes.....

I have found glorious ways to cheat and not take the fun out of the losing weight process…. So maybe it’s just as helpful to give examples of things you can find in shops that maybe people were not so aware of….

For example… I like a burger!!!! I’ll admit it!!!! So are you aware that sainsburys do luxury skinny quarter pound burgers that only contain 2.5g of fat for a pair!!!!

I know!!!

2 of them, low fat chips (3g of fat per portion) and a half tin of low salt low sugar baked beans…..

It’s my Friday night delight!!!!!

"I have found glorious ways to cheat and not take the fun out of the losing weight process….

Aldi actually do burger made from 5% mince that are basically just protein. "

Oh these are good tips!

I make my own from 5% mince. One of the key parts of my dieting is cutting out preprocessed foods, its not difficult to prep most things at home. Burgers have been one of my big successes. The family refer to them as my "famous" burgers, and there is barely any fat in them.

Busy weekend at work and catching up on sleep. Pure bliss. Its the Halloween hedonistic half term for me so having to manage being good whilst being very bad. Went out for a Sunday roast yesterday, left the mash and didn't have anything else but the big meal with a long island ice tea (diet ).

Last week was a bit of a shambles, feeling rough and trying to soldier on.

How's you lot doing?

Well, I did hire a young PT two year ago... He expected too much from my elderly self, I nearly fainted with reps every other minute

I have done cardio check ups with NHS since then, but that seems fine.

So I'm thinking I tried to do too much exercise, without gradually increasing it.

The last 20 odd years I have always been a bit stocky.I always eat the wrong things at the wrong times so I must try harder.I am thinking of getting back to the gym as it’s been a couple of years since I last went. I have been reading about something called 12 3 30 it’s a walking on a treadmill work out 12 on the incline 3 miles per hour for 30 minutes. Some lady in tik tok claims to have lost 30 pounds in a year.Any one heard of this work out is it any good.

. I figured walking is a good way to start as it’s fairly low impact on the knees and easy to do but 12 on the incline will be tough

Are you drinking enough, sleeping enough etc. This can have an impact.

Are you tracking calories?

Weightoss will not be linear as your body adjusts to things. Look at the bigger picture from where you started.

Take pictures to compare yourself against.

235lb this morning. But of a hectic weekend but not awful food wise. Back on track this morning.

Got a few nights out this week but I know I can plan around them to make sure they don't impact my weightloss too much.

Still panicking about my cruise though. I do have an issue with food that is just readily available!

I was on the lighter life programme and went on an all inclusive holiday. Luckily I didn't drink at the time but gave myself that week off. I had worked so hard so tended to stick to meat/fish and fruit/veg with a few diversions into carbs.

I have a huge 2 litre bottle that I fill with squash first thing in the morning and drink throughout the day. Sometimes I have to refill it.

As long as I drink all of that I know anything additional like coffee or pop etc is a bonus lol

Well I managed to lose 1.5lbs this week. Better than nothing. I'm thinking of going on the fast 800 diet for the next 2 weeks. I could do with dropping a stone as soon as I can before a Dr's appointment next month. Don't want him blaming my weight for my health problems. Anyone done the fast800 before? Could do with some low calorie meal ideas

Basically an 800 calories a day diet. You're supposed to try and do it as a low carb so you don't feel hungry on it

I'm no expert and I am sure that someone will come along soon to advise better but I can't imagine being that low for any length of time would be considered healthy. I get that you want to lose it before a Dr's appointment but for me it seems like a dangerous road to go down.

800 is extremely low and I think doing it low carb would actually make it harder since all the high volume, low calorie food tends to be carb based.

I wouldn’t recommend it, especially if your doing it to “fool” your doctor. But I guess if it’s for a short period it won’t be too damaging, but then again on such a short period how much meaningful weight can you lose?

I’m all for promoting healthy, sustainable methods of weight loss and extremely low calorie fads don’t fit in there with me. Just be careful.

Your more than a number on your bathroom scale

Cardio is cardio, however you do it. It’s just getting your heart rate up and keeping it there for a set time.

The real question is what kinda cardio will you actually do?

If someone says swimming is the best cardio, that’s great, but if you hate swimming and never go, it’s the worst for you.

The best cardio is the one your willing to do.

For me, treadmill incline walking is great for a few reasons

It’s low impact

It’s indoors (no rain or cold days)

It’s easy to track and adjust intensity (I did 30 minutes at 12 last week, I’ll do 30 minutes at 13 this week)

And the biggest factor for me

It’s cardio I can do while doing other stuff. I press go on the treadmill and I txt my friends, browse Reddit, watch Netflix, play chess on my phone. It’s the easiest for me to kill an hour on.

Change of nutrition to whole foods, no processed poor quality food and it will fall off. Bad carbs are a big issue and we eat way too many of the bad ones without knowing it. So much sugar in our diets.

I love seeing the journey of weight loss as it takes so much discipline and mental strength and to see the end goal is amazing. Keep it up guys you will love the new you

Lighter life is a vlcd, just under 800 cals a day but its sachets of their "nutritionally ballanced" fake food. I lost loads of weight on it and never felt hungry. Put it back on once I stopped as I didn't follow through with the psychology of eating. Just went back to bad habits. It's easy enough to lose a stone in a few weeks, the hard part is keeping it off.

"Porridge again this morning, that’s two times this week, I’m going to buy some to take to work. Instead of eating both chicken legs tonight, I’m going to take one into work tomorrow for lunch.

Have you looked at some overnight recipes online?

I found I hated cooking oats and eating them hot, but letting them soak overnight and mixing in some PB made them much more enjoyable for me

Views on baked oat recipes?! I feel like they're a slimming world hangover but now it's getting colder I quite fancy trying them. Trouble is a lot of them are chocolate or 'treat' food based and I am trying to get my snacking under control. Not sure that would help?! "

I've done the baked oats, I added a banana to mine, made it taste like a warm banana bread, so yummy

I dare not get on the scales as I've been all over the place with my bad habits.

Gonna chill for the next few days as I'm working nights at the weekend and it's Halloween then refocus on Monday. New month, new me, new load of big talk lol.

If you start on a Friday it might work.

I work Friday night until 5 am then sleep most of Saturday, get up and go to work until 5am. It's doable but Halloween is my Christmas so I will be indulging in something pleasurable at some point.

This week I've been on half term. I worked my fun job Tuesday night but apart from that I've just been lounging around trying to shake off my seasonal lurgies that as still lingering.

My plan was to get out and have some naughty fun but I'm just so lacking in energy and motivation. I need to get into food that is going to make me feel energetic rather than sluggish.

Holiday eating is not the same as everyday eating, especially if it's all inclusive. I've not been focused the last few weeks and went back to where I started. I'm really focusing from Monday. New Month and "the count down to christmas"

I'm back a week and holiday eating continued.

But I will refocus myself.

From Monday morning I will try to do my 30 min of exercise, and try to lose one meal.

I recently started a new job and in the spirit of being more organised I got up early and had breakfast. And then ended up having breakfast again at 10.30 then lunch and blah blah blah.

I need to lose at least one of them early meals. Maybe 2

I tend to skip breakfast as I'm up early and don't want to eat then. Often that backfires for me. I need to have a plan and stick to it. Work has been stressful and I've used that as an excuse to eat crap. I NEED more focus lol

What is it that's making you feel fatigued? Are you drinking enough? Dehydration can make you feel lethargic.

I’m not quite sure what you mean by energy inducing foods, mainly because I don’t think they exist. But I can give some tips.

Hydration is very important and so is sleep for energy.

Nutrient dense foods are great too. Your already in a deficit so you want to make sure your getting as much as you can out of each calorie

Not being in too much of a deficit. People often quite a 500 calorie deficit. That’s fine for me when I need 5000 calories to stay the same weight. But if you need 1500? That’s a 33% reductions. Too much.

Scales up by 5lb since Friday! Bloody weekends and I haven't even d*unk alcohol!

Yesterday I didn't drink an awful lot and when I did it was (sugar free) pop. Food was good yesterday but I did have a chocolate pudding and 2 bread rolls on Friday.

Sleep wasn't great Friday night but better last night.

Drinking lots today and making sure food is tracked!

Those pesky scales do like to jump.up and down. I try not to focus too much on them. I see by your posts today that you've got to see the results of your loss in other ways. Looking good!!!

Yeah I do need to look at the non scale victories as well. Had my blood tests for my diabetes last week so hoping the results of those will be a win as well. My daily testing has improved a lot since losing the weight.

2lb down this morning so I know it was just water weight over the weekend. Gonna really struggle not having my scales with me when I go away lol

So weight still up and down by a lb but I think I'm due on (cycles never regular so no fucking idea usually lol).

Results are back from the Dr and my hba1c is down from 73 in April to 51 now! Cholesterol down from 5 to 3.4! These are the results that ultimately matter!

Got signed up for fat club 5 weeks ago, (SW) so far lost just over a stone and been slimmer of the week and month…. first stone or two isn’t to hard to do as it was put on during lockdown a couple more after that will be far harder, a

Other issue I find is that SW is quite carb heavy which doesn’t suit my type 2 diabetes and in fact I do really well on low carb but that doesn’t work for the other half.
