"Where the hell is all this electricity going to come from? Electric cars, electric boilers and electric powering the heat source pumps! In the whole of the valley I live in (15 miles long) there are 6 public charging points. Cars queuing for fuel a few weeks ago, god help us when we all got flat batteries! Not to mention all the sex toys waiting their turn to be charged! ![]() Solar, wind, you know… all that green energy to relieve the reliance on gas and oil (seen the price of a barrel today…. Beautiful!) I don’t see the problem with promoting electric vehicles…. As long as that is the direction the car manufacturers are going anyway, then it’s a part of a solution to a much larger issue

You'd only just have to travel 845 miles to fill it up... https://www.autotrader.com/car-news/hydrogen-fueled-toyota-mirai-sets-guinness-world-record-breaking-845-mile-run" Its the future but id rather get a bus than drive that ugly thing

"I work in the electricity industry and there isn't enough energy capacity in the National Grid to meet the Government targets. It's a complete nonsense and all it's going to do is make rich people richer and poor people poorer.....you are being conned!!" Spot on.

Population over 65m. It's reasonable that any significant changes are well planned, meet the desired outcome (whatever that may be). Switching millions of cars to electric (or any other power source) needs significant infrastructure changes and won't just magically appear. We already import 24 Twh of electricity a year.

"The difference is that you can charge an electric car at home ![]() Nope not everyone can, double yellows outside my house and no off street parking, despite the fact we do t have sufficient electricity generation capacity - successive governments have been useless at forward planning. Lots of headline grabbing soundbites but no substance ![]()

Terraced housing is going to make it very difficult for charging

Ok as a commuter car or as a local run-around, but the ranges are pathetic, the cars are too expensive and charging takes too long compared to filling a tank with petrol or diesel. This may change from and this needs to change if the general line kick are going to buy into it.

"Electric cars do pose a challenge to anyone who has a property that doesn't have a driveway or supplied designated parking space. I know they are looking to relax dropped curb rules. But still makes things difficult for many people without access to such property/facilities at home. I suspect the desirability and price of properties with off road parking will increase as Electric cars become more the norm. Not so good for inner city dwellers in town houses, tight terrest streets, flats or HMOs." True, I think there needs to be a big push towards cycling and public transport improvements in many citys. If they all had strong public transport systems, the need for cars is greatly reduced

"I made the switch to electric (car) earlier in the year. I can charge at home & can use Tesla's supercharger network. If i couldn't charge easily at home or, had to reply on the sometimes out of order or occupied public charging infrastructure, i'd still be driving a petrol Hybrid right now. " Do you have a Tesla or something else? I heard the Supercharger network was supposed to be opening up to non-Tesla vehicles, but have never seen anything since stating it had happened.

"They already sell more green electricity than they make. Charging more for the same wigglies in your wires that you can’t tell where they were produced. " Green electricity.... What does that even mean to people.? I guess the windmills or solar panels or dams, require no materials, that don't require transport, no manufacture, no cables, no installation, no maintenance... Energy just goes zap... straight from the sun to the car. Not suggesting we don't need to reduce our footprint... Just saying be mindful there's a bigger picture than buying a tesla and job done.

Yes, Model 3 long range. There's been chatter for ages & it looks like they may open up the network in Norway at some stage soon. still no concreate info whether they'll do it in the UK though. I think they'll be mad as the Supercharger network is one of the main USP's.
