We have one but I think it was installed when we had broadband many moons ago pre fibre. It doesn’t ever ring nor do we use it. It’s kinda redundant now.

My dad who is in his 80's has one. He also has a mobile but never switches it on??

My mum has one as well (they're divorced) and makes all her calls on it and it's a lot easier to ring her on that. When you ring her mobile, it's always on but she either can't find it or never gets to it in time.

With BT we were told we had to have one for broadband. Couldn’t tell you the last time it rang though

ditched our phone a couple of years ago, it was a waste of money as we rarely used it and calls cost more than they do on mobile.

Got virgin broadband so no need for the line at all

My neighbours have it for broadband. They have mobile phones, but tend to leave them in any room they don't use and rarely answer them. We live in an area with no street lights, gas, mains drains, fibre broadband etc.

Yep, I got it connected when I moved into my flat as I run a small website for other work (I will not advertise Mods, so breathe now) but since I've had no real chance to get it running thanks to covid I never plugged the phone into the line! lol

Yup as everyone else, for broadband purposes only.

Though I have recently put a phone back in it (a nice bakelite one), pretty much just for the sake of it, and I guess the odd emergency.

Backup plans are always sensible, especially as to report most problems you need to call someone. Calling your mobile operator from a non-functional mobile has it's challenges.

Stop paying for it!

You can get a reduction on your bill.

My parents were paying for a certain BT package for years that they never used and my brother got 2 years of the fee refunded for them.

We do. Some family members are old school, plus our phone number is one digit different to the Dr's.

I'd feel bad if someone rang and I couldn't give them the correct number! (we always get the older generation ringing asking to book an appointment, bless them. I don't want to give them a heart attack when I open the door in my lingerie thinking it's my "meet")

I like the comfort of having a land line. landline is phone always there if needed, unlike mobile which could have ran out of battery or not have a signal which is usually the case in my house.

I still have for broadband. But still get like today. Garage leave message saying car service due next month. Also friends who have payg phones . Use landlines to call. Cheaper for them .

Yes, because it’s a useful back up and on a payg tariff it’s free unless we use it.

Also find it useful for the voicemail, as I tend to give companies the land line and just listen to the messages when I can be arsed.

Ours is technically live because it was cheaper to get a broadband and phone deal but it's not plugged in to anything. It's just one more number to get spammed on, and everyone has a mobile phone now anyway.

Yep still got one, in a powercut if the cell towers go down you have no way of contacting anyone, landlines will still work

Older people who can't cope with mobile phones easily, like my dad, find them useful. There are some areas where mobile reception is terrible where landlines are essential.

I have a landline connection to my house, but don't use it. Too far from the exchange for broadband to work, so my internet is beamed by UHF radio to a receiver on the roof.

I did have a landline phone, but have switched to VOIP, keeping my old landline number.
