So myself and a girl friend are meeting up in London in a couple of weeks. We know the area and what we want to do so sticking around there so we don’t get lost!

I won a voucher via social media for £100 off on a famous booking website.

I, being Yorkshire to the bone, have picked a £130 room and thought ‘it might have fleas and legionella but that voucher will make it almost free and it’s only a place to lay your head’

My mate is picking the high end trying to argue that ‘it’s cheaper than that price though isn’t it’

What camp are you in? I bet I’m in the minority

North West

I'd go for the dearer one, using the voucher to pay no more in total than my "usual" overnight budget. Which would mean a bit of an upgrade

Atlantis

I’d take the fleas for an almost free stay I can sleep anywhere so I’m not too picky

If you'd booked a budget hotel for £50 would they have paid you £50 to stay there?

Let her pick the higher end, divide the cost by 2, remove your voucher....

In a ball gown because that's how we roll in N. Devon

I'd go for the £130..... but I'm a skint bugger as you know

LONDON

Every year there are numerous reports of people contacting everything from ringworm to genital lice in unclean London hotel rooms....my advice is always to err on the side of caution...

.

It depends on what £130 is getting you in terms of a room and hotel standard. A boxroom of a flea pit with no window, a rapidly yellowing ensuite? No. Premier Inn? Maybe.

I'm a bit of a hotel snob, try very hard not be but I am and I'd probably be tempted by the higher end one. More expensive doesn't mean better though (obviously).

Also yay for winning and hotel success!

I (Mr) am incredibly tight (I have Yorkshire blood). But because I'm so tight I don't waste my money on rubbish. I'm not just about price, I'm about value. If something is so rubbish because its cheap and you don't enjoy it then IMO you have completely wasted your money.

Somewhere in Co. Down

I'd go for the 130 one it's a place to sleep as long as it's clean then I'm happy enough I wouldn't pay a load of money for a night's stay in a hotel anyhow if I'm honest. And a 130 price tag I would mean I'd expect the place to be clean and nice anyhow.

100% agree. In most cases you get what you pay for.

I'm all for cheap but not if it's disgusting. I'm reminded of the cockroach in the bathroom on my first ever London stay in the 90s

On a mooch

If you are only going to be sleeping in it, then as long as it’s clean and comfortable I’d go for the £130.

What does the higher end give you, little bit more sqm, extra facilities, pool, bar or similar, would you use them ?
