Mini break ideas

A friend's partner has asked me to help him come up with a special birthday break for her 40th. He's leaning towards staying in the UK, but open to overseas provided the covid rules aren't too much of a pain. It'll probably be for the beginning of next year.

Any recommendations that I can take the credit for when I pass them on ?

I do love Barcelona though. And Istanbul is on my list of places to visit, as is Budapest.

Krakow.. with a bonus trip to Zakopane - 2 h drive (Tatra mountains) or Wieliczka - half an hour drive (beautiful salt mine).

I thought of there too actually! I found some self drive packages, but don't think he'd want that. I'll do more research into good hotels etc

Northern lights are on my bucket list too.

Amsterdam/Bruge You can just hop across on a ferry.

For nightlife in the UK Liverpool, Newcastle or Manchester and book a spa break at a nice hotel.

I’d not want to travel out of the UK yet sooo

Always had a soft spot for Edinburgh or even Glasgow as the two are only a short train ride apart

Bristol

I can recommend Bristol if staying in the UK. There's plenty to do.

Abroad I can recommend Prague, Czech Republic (cold early in the year though) or Florence, Italy.

Count Your Blessings Cottage, Gratitude Grove

Potters Resort in Great Yarmouth - all inclusive food, drink and entertainment. I was there in the summer and am heading back in December. Excellent value for money

Butlins adult music weekends- for over 18s only - great fun, I’ve been going to them for years

Of those you’ve not said, Bruges is nice and not too expensive if you go by ferry or short flight. Amsterdam if you want something a bit busier. Iceland is a must do, though not if you’re going on a boozy holiday as it’s about £10 a pint. There’s always Dublin and Belfast too.

If staying on G.B. Newcastle, Liverpool, Leeds, Bristol all faves.

Chester or York are both beautiful & loads to do. River boats, open top bus tours, walls to walk, some lovely parks.

Istanbul is gorgeous I used to pass through there 5 or 6 times a year and never tired of the place.

There’s some amazing places to eat and foods to try. And you’ll already know about the places to visit. Galatta Tower for a sunset is a must, the views over to the blue mosque are stunning.

And I can highly recommend a Turkish bath that’s been on the same site since the 1500s it’s beautifully updated too
