Toffee apples

I haven't had one since I was a kid but seeing as though I had a surplus of them from my apple trees I thought I'd have a go at making them myself......and they're delicious. A sugar thermometer was essential so a wise purchase. I'm feeling properly autumnal now.

Anyone else getting in the autumnal mood? If so, what are you doing?

I've been nibbling on a batch that I made last week. Very tasty. I'll have to do another lot as it'll all be gone by November 5th.

It's that cracking that you get when you bite into them that does it for me.

When I was a kid there was roasted chestnut vendors in the streets. You don't see them anymore. Anyway, in Portugal at this time of year they are everywhere.

Loved these as a kid, even though the apple was disappointing.

My teeth jangle at the thought of a toffee apple these days, but I definitely wouldn’t turn down the homemade version!
