I doing a step class later... So legs

Then I'll do my all round programme which focuses on chest, arms, legs.. I'll try and persuade myself to do some assisted lifts and pullup sit up things - but that's already sounding doubtful

I miss having a workout partner

I might treat myself with a jacuzzi /steam/sauna and maybe a swim

I'm playing wheelchair basketball later and doing 2x trips by wheelchair to school and back, which involves a jolly steep hill. Good shoulder work out!

That’s very respectable weight for kettlebells.

On the goblet squats you ‘Pry’ so at the bottom of the squat you gently pry the hips open with the inner elbows …halos with a 16kg bell is

More than enough to warmup the lats and shoulder girdle. Hip bridges are a good way to also fire the glutes and hams ready for the hard style swings.

I love KB’s

My deadlifts is 120kg for 4reps.

I do low volume and lift as heavy as I can.

For legs I’m pushing for 15 reps again as heavy as I can get.

You get a free month so try it

I like it because you can make a routine as long as you want from 5 minutes to 90 minutes

You can choose the type of yoga you do

You can choose the difficulty level

And you can choose a focus for the session

Need a 45 minute yin yoga class with a focus on hips? No problem

15 minute class to loose your shoulders up? Done

After working on building sites all my life a gym work out is not what I need

Your in a warm place I can be in red hot days or freezing days

lugging 3x2s and 4x2s up 2 flights of stairs

carrying plasterboards up 2 flights of stairs

lugging annoying 4" insulation up 2 flights of stairs

lifting 12x4s 30ft beams up scaffolding

3 floors high

lifting rafters 4x2s 60

lifting 8x4s up scaffolding

lifting 30ft steel beams

some of these jobs are between 2 people up to 10 people things weigh too much

Quite right too!

I'm limited to gym time at the mo OP - 50 mins max before they boot me out... 10km fits the slot nicely at 25 to 30 strokes per minute.

10,325m in 53.48 to be precise

Then I got booted out!

I follow workouts on YouTube.

I’m easing back into it, after an enforced 3 months rest.

Just some simple planks, bicycles etc, plus I do booty workouts most days, which works my core too.

Good luck with deadlifts. Do you use a barbell or trap bar ?

This evening I did a 6 mile run at easy effort pace.

Tomorrow will be a 4 mile run at easy effort pace, and Sunday will be a 10 mile run with 8 miles of it at marathon pace.

I don’t really understand the sumo style. Just looks super awkward for me.

A bit like squatting some people squat low bar , where most people high bar it across the traps.

Well done in your 6mile run . That’s awesome.

I was getting into 5k runs and watched a lot of review videos on running shoes. Do you use different training shoes for different distances ?

Good luck on your recovery.

I’ve not had an injury or surgery such as yours, but I know the frustrations of a slow recovery process.

It has taken me YEARS to do this. With the exception of 1 year while I recovered from a car crash, we're talking at least a decade here. BUT...

Today was FINALLY the day I managed to pull a triple bodyweight deadlift with clean form! 300 from the floor

Won't mean much to some of you, maybe most of you. But I'm literally like a kid in a sweet shop right now

2 x bodyweight is respectable

2.5x even more

But 3 x body weight is highly impressive

Well done .

Strength takes time to build Kylie, you have to grind over a long ass time to yield results. You'll see big gains at the beginning, sure. But the gains start to drop off at a certain point and from there it can take months or even years, just to add 5 or 10kg to a big lift.

So I was explaining that it's taken me a decade to hit this goal. 300, I did say

Well it was either Pounds or KGs, and I don't think there are many fully grown adults who weigh 100lbs you asked 'how many KGs did you pick up?' to which I have answered. Twice

Yeah but is that because you have half of your house in each bag? Take some stuff out of them until they're comfortable to carry. Add a bit more and get used to that. Add a bit more...

I’ve been told so many times to try yoga and Pilates to improve my flexibility but keep putting it off. It all helps improve core strength so would benefit me massively with lifting but my flexibility is that bad I’d be embarrassed going the first time

Don’t be silly, Yoga is super inclusive despite the yummy mummies might seem super judgy. We won’t laugh if you can’t bend ur back properly or if you fall over when you are in a happy baby position with ur arse up! Pinky promise!!

You just have to keep at it and eventually the muscles will become over time more and more flexible (longer). It is super rewarding and that uncomfortable feeling of over stretching can become quite addictive in my opinion !!

For Pilates, I would recommend you opt for Pilates Reformer. Which is more focused in working the particular muscles. I found 5 years of group classes was ineffective for me.

Yin yoga to work deeper muscles and flexibility and balance (holding positions still for 10 mins works great)

And Viniyasa/flow/ash tanga for a more of a dynamic work out for strength and some flexibility too x

10K?! Damn. I would be gassed out after like 10 metres, you'd rung rings around me fair play!

"Any exercise is better than none and I don’t think I could stand up in roller skates. I’m the least flexible person in the world so yoga would be 10x harder for me than lifting something heavy

I can do flexibility and balance amazingly x

I’ve been told so many times to try yoga and Pilates to improve my flexibility but keep putting it off. It all helps improve core strength so would benefit me massively with lifting but my flexibility is that bad I’d be embarrassed going the first time

Don’t be silly, Yoga is super inclusive despite the yummy mummies might seem super judgy. We won’t laugh if you can’t bend ur back properly or if you fall over when you are in a happy baby position with ur arse up! Pinky promise!!

You just have to keep at it and eventually the muscles will become over time more and more flexible (longer). It is super rewarding and that uncomfortable feeling of over stretching can become quite addictive in my opinion !!"

With anything I get addicted to progress so I’d more than likely find yoga just as rewarding but it’s just getting started that’s the problem.

I love a bit of banter and piss taking so people laughing at me wouldn’t bother me in the slightest

"It has taken me YEARS to do this.

That’s seriously impressive. I was absolutely buzzing when I hit 2x body weight. It would take years for me to get anywhere near 3x. Well done mate

Thank you. Well done to you too on your double bodyweight deadlift, that's awesome! If the triple is on your radar then you should definitely go for it

Thanks. I didn’t deadlift for over a year after an injury so hitting that was massive for me. Getting to 3x seems almost impossible but I know I could get there with the right training, nutrition and dedication. I’ll aim for 2.5x first and see how it goes.

Nothing is impossible with the right mindset dude. As you say, with the right dedication you can definitely hit that target. I wish you well on your journey to 2.5x bodyweight "

Cheers. I’ll get started this week

For Pilates, I would recommend you opt for Pilates Reformer. Which is more focused in working the particular muscles. I found 5 years of group classes was ineffective for me.

Yoga has been amazing for flexibility ."

I’ll have a look at that. Thanks

Everywhere & Nowhere

Today for me was a cardio blast, given to me initially by a sadistic saucepot of a friend, it's knarly but I'm growing to like it!

Two ladders going in opposite directions.

100cal Assault Bike

1 x Mindy

80cal Ski-Erg

2 x Mindy

60cal Assault Bike

3 x Mindy

40cal Ski-Ergin

4 x Mindy

20cal Assault bike

5 x Mindy

1 x Mindy = 5 x 25kg bag clean, 7 pushups, 9 bodyweight squats.

Try it, modify it, partner up (10cal each alternate), you might just like it.

Now where's the real Mindy?

Same circuit I try to do every day.

Set out from hove sea front, up to devils dyke, over the ditchling and the beacon, back into brighton and head up the hill to the race course, down to the sea front to go as fast I as I can for as long as I can.

Yep I did a Sunday workout

A quick session to work on explosiveness

5 mins simple warmup of halos, goblet squats and hip bridges

Then…

10 hard style Russian swings with the 40kg kb

10 plymoteric push-ups

Recover 30 secs

X 10 rounds

Gets nasty quite quickly if you go full tilt

Cool down.

"My deadlifts is 120kg for 4reps.

I do low volume and lift as heavy as I can.

For legs I’m pushing for 15 reps again as heavy as I can get.

I love deadlifts , cardio, strength , if I’m really not feeling it I just force my self to get to the gym and do 5x20 deadlift if nothing else. I think the stances increases testosterone too I get quite primal and grunt and shout a bit and come out really horny "

I used to train like this for a long time. My PT says the science shows as long as you train to hypertrophy it doesn’t matter whether you lift heavy , light, low or high reps , I made more gains training with him at lower weight so I train to avoid injury now

Training injury free is the ideal.

I’m carry an injury and just work around it.

As regards to heavy vs light for gym muscles, I’d say do what works best for your body type.

I do train for strength and gym muscles.
