World Mental Health Day, 10th October 2021

Jump to newest

By (user no longer on site) OP

As others have already posted, today is World Mental Health Day and this year's theme is Mental Health in an Unequal World.

If you need help with your own situation you can phone Samaritans, CALM, SANELine, or National Suicide Prevention Hotline.

The NHS has local mental health emergency numbers.

Mind also has a good range of resources online.

Please feel free to share any thoughts or experiences of mental health issues on this thread, if you want to.

Take care everyone

This is a great thread Leo, hopefully those who need it most have gone and looked at the sites you've mentioned, even if they haven't posted here

We all struggle at some point in life, it's nice to know others care x

I've had an absolute hellish 2 years. Last year I lost 4 relatives and my dog, lost my job and got diagnosed with cancer. This year my mum got diagnosed with cancer and died 6 weeks ago. I've had my bank accounts hacked, 2 smashed car windscreens, a flood in the house and complications from my cancer treatment. My mental health has had a huge wobble. I am chatting to Macmillan and encourage everyone to accept help when needed. I flipping need it and feel no shame accepting help.

Great post OP.

As you say there are many organisations out there to help. The best step is to ask for help

Most towns and cities also have mental health cafes and drop in centres for people who would prefer something face-to-face. Definitely have a look to see what support is available in your local area because I think many will be surprised with how much there actually is.

Last weekend, a few of us gathered for tea and cakes after watching our sons' school football match. We joked, laughed and had the usual chit-chat in a ritual that has remained the same for the past four years.

We said our usual goodbyes but one amongst us meant it to be permanent. He took his own life a few hours later.

A man well respected and seen to be successful by all accounts. There is no 'type' of person who would do this. He was the last person anyone would have said would do it.

When the shock of that news began sinking in, I felt in need of company amongst those familiar to me. I came to the Forum and asked for it in a thread. Many wonderful people gave me their time. That helped and I thank you all for it.

Sometimes, just the smallest gesture can make a world of difference.

Can get by with a little help from my friends !
