Food drop off points are everywhere. Theres 1 in our gym now.

Every single shop we go into there is one.

Going to get worse.

Never heard of food banks when I was growing up in the 70s and 80s and we were poor then.

Govt needs to do more.

im not sure if this post is to spread awareness, or if its a bit of a dig.

but while they shouldn't even need to be around, as its awful they're needed so badly, they do seem to be a necessity right now.

ive had to use them in the past, in order to be able to feed my children, and it's a disgusting feeling having to admit that, let alone having to join the queue of literally 40 or so people in your little village, to get a hand out.

no one wants that.

but they are vital for struggling people and families.

im glad collections are 'everywhere'. it means that when we've gotten back on our feet, we can pay it forward and help where we can.

you never know when you could find yourself at your lowest, and needing the assistance they offer.

Food banks are supposed to be for actual emergencies when people are on hard times. We don't think their increased use is due to hard times, it's probably just that more people now are incapable of supporting themselves.

With a CONservative government that actually endorses food banks and sees it as a promotional, do gooding, media activity by opening them...what do you see changing under this corrupt 'leadership'?

I don't think you should feel disgusted about it; by the sounds of it you did what was necessary and didn't take the pee out of the system, and turning that cheek should be applauded

I have worked with people in the past mind, and tried to help them budget their salaries. I'd astonishing how many people have booze and cigs as their number one priorities, despite having children to feed.

I agree the government absolutely needs to do more! Additional Food banks have been forced to pop up everywhere to help support those who have been massively affected by the pandemic! I have no problem admitting that food banks played a big part for me last year, as I was part of the forgotten about self employed group! Myself and my children had our Christmas dinner donated to us by a charity, just so the kids had some sort of normality! So yes I feel more needs to be done by the government!

They've normalised it so they don't have to take the blame.

And left it to the public and charities to help feed the vulnerable ones, without having to do anything themselves!

Many will think food banks are government initiatives! I guess if they were, that would show their failings!

That’s what you get when a leader gets voted in because of his personality rather than his policies …. The level of wealth on some who make decisions on those that financially struggling is mind blowing

no need to feel disgusted, you do what you need to do to look after your children. I give as much to them as I possibly can right now incase I ever need their help in the future. Our food bank takes donations of old school uniforms to pass on to people at a fraction of the price they would have paid otherwise. I think that's great, so I can donate it to others rather than it just being thrown away.

The charities are asked to do more and more with less and less, and then get blamed when donations fall or we can't do stuff that was never and should never be in our remit.

I'm tired.

I hate the food bank trolley in Asda after the checkouts...it annoys me that they want people to buy items from their store to go to the food bank when they are a multi million pound company and could easily afford to donate loads to them

Lots of supermarkets do support local foodbanks...

"Air quote" They "air quote" don't want people to buy items... they do however allow foodbanks to have a collection point in store to make it easier for other people to donate.

Foodbanks that way get donations from peoe who wouldn't ordinarily donate.

In a country that's absolutely stufted to the gills with wild food and game, I've never needed one, no matter how broke I've been in the past.

Odd how so many folk have lost the ability to feed themselves without a shop or food already prosscessed/packaged for them.

I'd have thought it would be a really really basic human skill.

I took it as OP was saying there shouldn't need to be any and the Gov's need to step up and sort it out

I'm sorry you've had to use them in the past. Hopefully this will get better!

The one thing that bothers me is that quite a lot of people on benefits will stay on benefits because they actually have a lifestyle they are happy with ? No work , help paying the bills , help getting free clothes and furniture! Now food ?

For those that have no interest in getting a job I’m disgusted with how they play the system!

To the people who just need a help until they get back into work or sorted I have every respect and would much rather they get more help than those who make a career out of it but usually they are the ones who suffer the most as they have no idea who and what they can actually get to help them ?

As a been there and struggled person that is my look on it
