A reflective thread

Mirrors.

Do you like or loathe them ? Do you trust them ?

Do you recognise the person looking back at you ?

A mirror can never show you who are inside though they are decent for beard trimming

I like looking at the man in the mirror.

When he's behind me

As long as he's not the candyman

I have an almost phobic dislike of mirrors but I don't mind using them during sex, which is odd.

Oh mirrors drive me mad and play mind games. But I do have body dysmorphia and I think that is why I have such a strong issue with them.

I have not had a haircut since 1987 because I hate sat being sat in a chair looking at myself.

Like at the Attic?

And we like them at home because we can see if we're presentable before going out. Yes we recognise the person looking back, as it's us!

Some people can see their reflection everywhere including in the words of others so don't need mirrors.

Others catch sight of their reflection but are confused and think it's someone else.

Fab mirrors are great because for every one that shows you in a bad light there are 100 more telling you how amazing you are.

.

I don't mind them. They're useful for making sure I don't have toast crumbs on myself and the dreaded four boobs.

I do like incorporating them in to sex but only when the sex is starting out and I'm not a flushed, sweaty frizzy haired Bilquis.

And no, sometimes I don't recognise myself. I think that I'm always going to have times when in my head I'm the size 30 I once was and so when I see someone in a shop window I do check myself out and think gosh I'm a buxom babe.

I didn't look at myself in a mirror for 25 years. Or look at photos.

I'm not exactly delighted with what I see now but it's ok. It's getting better I guess

Funfact: the modern class mirror was only invented in the early 19th Century.

I think I still prefer mirrors to selfies. Or that grim moment when you go to take a photo and the camera is in reverse image mode.

I bloody love a mirror. I find it nigh on impossible to walk past one without preening. I’m a nightmare in lifts and home furnishing stores.

A well placed mirror in the boudoir is always a winner too!

In a ball gown because that's how we roll in N. Devon

There are 8 mirrors in my house. One is above the sink in the bathroom. Five are facing walls in various places. Two are tiny tiny pocket mirrors.

I don't use them. When I (rarely) put makeup on I use the tiny tiny mirror and do a bit at a time.

I look everywhere but straight ahead when I stand in front of the sink. Because I hate looking at myself. I've been the same for many years.

Until yesterday, when I made a conscious decision to look. I even turned sideways and still looked. And for the first time since I was about 7, I wasn't disgusted. I thought "Hm". Not a good thought, not a bad thought. Which I am totally taking as a win.

I see myself very very differently to the person some of you see in my pictures. I'm not sure who she is, I don't see what any of you see. But what I see, what I have photographs of, has been in mirrors and reflective surfaces for a long, long time.

Yesterday was a huge moment for me.

Nope. I'm a beardy since I was 13.

If I did shave I would focus on the razor. Not look at myself. It sounds like bullshit but I didn't realise I was doing it

I like mirrors, they reflect the light.

I always find house mirrors differ to shop mirrors. You leave the house feeling like you look half decent, you meander through Marks & Spencer and catch a glimpse of yourself in their mirrors and find you look like a bag of wank!

Oh and that you can watch yourself being fucked in them and watch their expressions when they think they arent observed, sometimes!

Masked and Distant

I use my car mirrors more than any other type.

Check my hair and beard first thing in a morning, and a quick check in the loos through the day.

Ive got used to the face that peers back at me, and Im fairly happy with what I see. Outward appearance is only the tip of the iceberg.
