Okay so inspired by the Vanilla Sex thread. Sorry if it takes focus away from that - worry not my threads tend to die quickly.

It got me thinking, as I raised the question in that thread.

What do you consider as vanilla sex?

At what point does it stop being vanilla?

Is it you view vanilla as nothing but lifeless and emotionless missionary, or varied positions filled with enthusiasm and excitement but lacking the additional "acts" that would be considered as crossing in to other realms of sexual interest?

I think of kinks as things beyond two naked people having sex at home together. Kinks come in when you have less common locations and when you start adding less common clothing (from dressing up to whips and chains) or start adding other people to the mix.

We're very happy with that but do step outside it from time to time.

The annoyance of not being able to edit a post! I'd love to expand on my initial question more.

But yes this is sort of what I was getting at.

To me vanilla can be just as exciting and thrilling as any sex with kinks involved depending on the two people involved (more than two, does that then stop being vanilla? Hmmm I guess it does).

However does hair pulling, light to moderate spanking, firm gripping suddenly stop it being vanilla? Heat of moment passion and intensity, is that vanilla?

Just to be clear I'm generally asking, not enquiring about actual rules

Again, I wish I could expand my OP to include additions.

For me vanilla doenst mean boring and isn't confined to a certain position, vanilla means something everyone enjoys and is inoffensive to the masses (not everyone likes chocolate or coffee cake but pretty safe bet everyone eats normal vanilla cake)

It's a question I've mused on many times, and I haven't come up with any definitive answer!

Stuff I think is not vanilla:

Sex involving more than two people

Anything involving the bum between a straight MF couple

But as we know, it varies wildly from person to person...

That is the nature of the question. I can't give a definitive answer since it's all personal taste and that there are blurred lines and far from vanilla = basic.

I think that is actually what I'm putting across really.

I may be a bit odd here but I kind of see vanilla as being something that doesn't require me and M to discuss beforehand.

So to me it's the things we are comfortable doing with each other. But that maybe because we do do kink and we set that out very differently to vanilla, so it's easier for me to differentiate?
