I'm all for moving with the times. But not bond. The film is about James bond. It wouldn't be a James bond film if they changed it. Maybe a spin off. Another DOUBLE O agent. But leave bond as it is.

You mean no sex in a Bond film? Now that is outrageous

They've had a trans bond girl before. Although I'm not sure if they knew she was trans at the time of filming

"Ummm bond clearly says in skyfall "What makes you think this is my first time?”. When silva is rubbing him up..."

Came here to say this.

Bond's whole schtick is that he'll do anything to get the mission done. Why shouldn't that include seducing another man?

(Also, watch the beginning of Licence to Kill and tell me that Bond doesn't have history with Felix's fiancée Della. MMF, MFM or swinging? You decide. I'd totally believe they met her during an operation and their first date involved DP.)

I think it's incredibly patronising actually.

If we truly believe that everyone is valid, then why is no one working to create a new spy, superhero or whatever type of role with the characteristics you mentioned? That would be original and something worth celebrating.

Hasn’t been kept much of a mystery thus far, in large stack of books and large list of films.

Because it's easier and less work to try and modify a winning formula than to create something new.

I don’t agree with redefining an established character just for the sake of it or to appear inclusive.

True inclusivity would the development of other characters with different backgrounds, ethnicity, sexuality, gender identities. Trying to force those things into an existing character is just a clumsy idea, lazy thinking.

Masked and Distant

I read somewhere that the majority of real "double ohs" are bisexual as they stand more chance of obtaining information from a "fab straight" guy in the real world.

But then again Bond has never reflected the real world.

Passed Beyond Reach

Bond is bond, wish people would stop trying to change him. If he is outdated and nolonger fits into modern day ethics, past his sell by date, retire him.

Create a new ethos, a new modern age character.

Why do people feel they need to try and destroy history, remake it on their own image "history is history, past, gone" should be changing the future and not re write the past.

I agree completely. It is not for the masses to rewrite an authors characters, only the author themselves can do that.

Completely agree. Trying to shoehorn old characters like this into current culture is just clumsy and lazy, trying to stay relevant while still milking an established franchise.

Like you say, leave bond as is, if that means he doesn’t fit and is a dinosaur, retire him, develop other characters.

Bond is clearly defined in the books and should be left that way. Same with poirot, Marple, etc

Nope, the character is great as he is. If it's not broke, don't fix it. I'm all for diversity in cinema but I don't agree with changing a character for it - I'd rather see a new franchise develop and have it's own story.

There's so many talented actors and script writers alike out there who could nail it too!
