Why ask for WhatsApp

Jump to newest

I messaged a lady this morning and got a reply asking if I had WhatsApp, when I said I only message on here she deleted and didn’t reply.

Why would someone come on here then only want to message on another platform?

I also refuse to use WhatsApp and its often a deal breaker.

Some of the reasons they give are WhatsApp is easier as you can video call etc and sending pics is faster.

I only add people on WhatsApp if we have arranged a meet or have already met.

I prefer to message friends on other platforms, it's quicker and easier.

However, if this is happening immediately, it might be a way to avoid Fab's rules

More instant maybe? Notifications when people message you? Their prerogative?

Why let it bother you so much?

Why not use other platforms?

So many bloody questions

It's a personal preference.

It's easier to chat on WhatsApp. Or she's a stalker and wants your phone number to invade your privacy.

You choose to only use here as is your right

She choose to not ... as is her right.

I'm sure you would have liked to have known it was a deal breaker but you are probably better off now. You guys maybe didn't have the right energy for each other

I would only add someone on another platform if I classes them as a friend or if I've chatted with them on here and was on my way to meet them

I think some see it like if your not willing to give your number out you must be cheating. Seems to be the driving narrative for a lot of things on here at the moment. Eg not accommodating, not meeting in the evenings ect. Personal/professional reasons don't seem to wash anymore

It didn’t bother me, just thought I’d ask the question. Faster messaging and notifications makes sense, as has been said each to their own preferencesz

We always get these type of requests from/especially from single males they ask watsapp and the other names escape me i think its "kik" or something like that. My phone is too old for whats app lol and we are not good with cams etc.

We chat here I try to respond to every message on FS and we may may chat via phone and the other night we met a nice guy from FS.

As others have said its a personal choice but not one for me as I could end up messaging the wrong people our our children may see some of the stuff as the mobiles are never locked

Fab is a secret life for me. Not because I’m attached. I’m not but I don’t wish my sexual wants and desires known to my nearest and dearest. So WhatsApp, snap and Instagram are for my friends and family only. Also, I’m wary of scammers on here so would rather chat here or kik, telegram and wickr the platforms that can be used for instant messaging and calls/video calls until there’s trust enough on both sides to swap numbers and more personal details.

I tend to move onto other message platforms at a certain point. The messaging on here is rather unwieldy at times and on other platforms you can message easier.

It’s fairly standard to move if you’re getting along but not for everyone. Not everyone is comfortable giving out their numbers.

It’s just an indication that you weren’t on the same page. Take it as a sign that you weren’t compatible

I will use Kik only as another communication method other than here as your phone number remains totally private ,and l find it a brilliant way of contacting someone plus you have the message instantly if you weren't logged on here .

Good point about compatibility, I’ll keep doing what feels right for me and see where my journey on here goes.

Hopefully meetings and good times are yet to come.

Whatsapp now harvests your contacts and pictures.

Whatsapp is now owned by facebook.

I would be very cautious about anything involving whatsapp/facebook and this game.

I chat on here for a good while but if I'm meeting up with someone I will want to move to WhatsApp beforehand so I have their number to give to my safety person.

It is only at the point where I'm meeting though, I don't want to give my own number until I'm comfortable with someone so I couldn't expect anyone else to do what I won't do myself!

If someone blocks me for not giving my number before I'm ready then that's good news to me - it's telling me that we're nowhere near being on the same page and I don't even need to do the "thanks but I'm not interested" shtick.

I find kik suggested more often, but same thing, “hi, got kik?” And if you reply no then you never hear from them again .

To add to what tea said.

I'm chatting to a few people on here and at times messages I send get lost in the volume that the ladies are receiving. (I assume )

If you want more direct conversation then some people prefer an app made for direct conversations.

(And some people like a clear line between a group sex chat and family group chat)

Easier to chat, wants to ask for paid services so can't get banned from here, only after chat and doesn't want to meet, or is actually some guy just pretending to be woman usually they always ask for Kik.

For me I never chat outside of here unless we have met before. Too many time wasters

Totally get what your saying but giving out peoples numbers or addresses even for safety is a big no no and the main reason lots wont give out there personel number. I get your point 100% about safety but people dont really want you giving out a number that was given to you in confidence just the same as someone who tells others what address your going to.

After a little conversing via fab messages, if we feel it may lead somewhere.

We like to take things to a phonecall, if we get along we will then be happy to exchange face pics and stay in touch via WhatsApp.

There's no notification notice for messages here, plus we can receive additional messages whilst logged in.

It just works for us well this way.

We do use a spare/play phone for fab numbers, so we can leave the phone off when it's inconvenient to receive messages.

Oh yes, I will always tell my safety person what address I'm going to, and I turn a tracking app on so they can see where I am (well, where my phone is at any rate).

I wouldn't meet anyone without my safety person having details.

We keep WhatsApp for friends and family and switch from here to Telegram when it feels like things are going somewhere. It's easier to get a dialogue going and see who's chatting on Telegram, which, in a couple, isn't easy to tell on here.

We'd be wary of anyone wanting to make that switch straight away.

I guess if they’re not members then their messages are limited each day, that could be a reason for some? I personally find the messaging service on here horrible and doesn’t suit me at all, so wouldn’t have a problem going to kik or something that doesn’t give out my number, but that would be after a while

Hm, I get requests sometimes to use WhatsApp and I don't understand them at all - completely pointless to me as firstly, I won't be doing any so called "chatting". If we are not arranging a coffee date or a video call in the first few messages then I have nothing more to write to that person. Secondly, I uninstalled WhatsApp because Facebook bought it and I have no intention of installing it again. So moo point, as Joe would say

I do not mind using Kik once I have a coffee date and wish to interact further.

For me managing my messages on FS is not a problem because I do not receive that many.

I would take a conversation off here if I felt comfortable doing it, obviously things like Kik and Telegram don't need you to give out your number so it's a lot safer.

The danger with WhatsApp, is that it's now owned by Facebook. You'll find friends of the friend you're talking to on WhatsApp will appear in the 'People you may know' section on Facebook in your newsfeed. This is a prime opportunity for the unscrupulous on Fab to divulge your secrets to your friends. More importantly and worryingly for some, is that the person themselves you are talking to on WhatsApp will appear as a 'Someone you may know' on Facebook, again, exposing your online identity. Use caution folks..especially the ladies!

If you have direct phone contact, it can help to avoid managing a busy inbox. Otherwise, it's feasible that if there's minimal checks for compatibility first, you're just going to be a punter, if they are breaking site rules.

Don't add phone number or email to Facebook. Use a different phone and email for sites such as Fab.

You are right, you do need to choose not to share your number between fb and WhatsApp , it’s trivial though. I would balance that between other risks , look what happened to Ashley Maddison. You need to protect your private messages and so far WhatsApp is the only platform that can guarantee that
