Just watched Dame Shirley Bassey on the Morecambe and Wise Show in 1971.

It's one of those classic TV moments that never fails to make me (Mrs KC) laugh, no matter how many times I see it! What a wonderful sport she was AND she didn't miss a note

I've got the boxset and the commentary explains how the final scene, where they go over the top ended not as a classic, but as a damp squib.

That is, until they slowed it down, made it fade to white, slow down the them tune, turned it to silence, then shown The Somme in monochrome and slowly bring it back to life with colour and bird song.
