Morning Where does everyone stand on misleading pictures on profiles ? I’ve had two meets now when the reality has been significantly different than what was expected xx Just a but disappointing when anticipation levels are high.

It happens OP to everyone

I always do a social first so you can make sure you are attracted to the person and get a feel for their rl personality first.

Though there was one exception but we had been talking quite a while first and then she turned out to be more beautiful than her pics.

It’s just one of those risks you take on fab

Great pics angles can make someone look a different body shape, to what they are advertising... After many social group meets, I learnt this very quickly.

In all honesty if you’ve invested the time in building up a connection and the sexual connection isnt there then have you discussed this before hand? If I am due to meet someone and it just isn’t there then I’d want honesty and and the fall back will be just having a good laugh with them and enjoying their company… it works both ways before a meet… hope that makes sense

It's an interesting Q...what did/do you consider deceitful about what you saw ?

Probably 80% of messages to me are along the lines of 'you have the body of a 30 yo'... And I'm like, err, no i don't... It definitely looks and feels its age

It puts me off meeting as they are likely to be disappointed that I'm not what THEY thought I was as in their head they are already expecting a perfect 30yo

So which side is the deception on?

Somewhere in Co. Down

Your veris will be over the moon if they read this thread .

And yes it happens and when it does it's not a big deal as I meet for a social first with no expectations of things going farther. If they do then great if not then it's just a chat and a coffee and no harm done.

I take my pics from the best angles I can but anyone I chat to I tell them I have wobbly bits I don't hide the fact that I do. There is no point in pretending to be something I'm not when if I meet someone they will see it for themselves anyhow

This is a great point and yes you can actually deceive yourself into thinking someone looks like they don’t. The same way they people overlook flaws or even rad flags at times.

Such wise words from Someone so young. I may have to raise my minimum age just so you can message me

As with anything on the internet I think you have to almost expect a certain level of embellishment when it comes to profiles, photos and even verifications on here.

At the end of the day nobody is going to post photos from the least flattering angles, or highlight their worst aspects.

That's understandable OP. Have a video call next time. Remember that people take photos from flattering angles and allow for that. No one looks exactly like they do in a photo because with real life comes movement, wrinkles, wobbles.

Id go along with this too, obv guys are saying it to be nice but yes, puts me off too cause I look nothing like the 40yr old I apparently resemble and I'd be very conscious of the fact they will be expecting a 40yr old and I would turn up.

But again how much of that responsibility is on you for 'creating a fantasy' on your head?

We are REAL women, with body history and whilst we all have faces, not all of us will be made up /symmetrical /have stunning eyes

Some of us sound like honking geese.. And maybe a few of us waddle too

But that is us and we need to be accepted for who we are, not what the beholder wishes us to be or has imagined /fantasised

Every person who replies you look 'perfect' triggers a response in us that we have to be something /someone we are not. They pressure is terrible.

Maybe video calls and getting to know them a little before meeting is the best option if you've been disappointed multiple times.

I like to exchange videos and build a connection with those I want to meet although I do understand this isn't for everyone. I think it gives you a better idea of that person and what to expect.

I look much better in a still photo than I do with movement. I still resemble my photos, but you don't see the wobble in my photos, and you don't see how my double chin makes an appearance when I'm talking or how my tummy rolls show up in certain positions.

Pictures are hard to get right, especially since it's basically impossible to be objective about your own body. I think so long as people aren't sending old photos (or doctored ones!) there's no deceit - you have eyes, you can see what they're not taking pictures of and use your head.

We have tried to be honest but it's hard because we think we're hot so any pictures of us that don't look hot are the misleading ones

Given the events of the last 18 months and the much greater acceptance of video calls, I’m surprised that more first meets aren’t on video. I don’t think it takes away from the thrill of meeting someone in real life for the first time but certainly does allow a bit of a ‘warts and all’ view of each other.

We had a single guy meet whose body clearly wasn’t what he posted on his profile, said he’d not been the gym in a while, erm I think a long while haha.

Our photos are as we are as I’d hate to meet with people and they were disappointed in how we look. I think you either have to be very brave or a chancer to give misleading pics before meeting someone who your going to get naked with

I'd be really peed off if someone didn't look like their pics. I do make it clear though that if they don't resemble their pics then I'm quite happy to turn around and go home and not continue with the meet. Luckily I've never met someone without lots of clear recent pics. The only way I can think to avoid this would be a video call before agreeing to meet.

I'm always going to show pictures that are flattering and from the best angles but the viewer can also read the photos if they actually take the time to look at them and use the other information available to them. I'm a short, ample, 50 year old woman...do the maths, look at the carefully placed arm in the photos, the pose which elongates...learn to read between the lines and apply a little logic. That said, if you get as far as potentially meeting us, you'll have seen the full length nude in our friends photos, and seen a couple of face photos so you'll know exactly what you're getting.

But disappointment comes in many forms in all areas of life...I mean have you ever seen an actual Big Mac that looks like it does in a McD's ad?

I think it’s fair to ask for pictures to be recent, and include whatever they wish for if they seek particular things I suppose. Personally, as long as I had an idea of their face and general build, that’s great. Oh, and not filtered, it baffles me why people filter their pictures if it doesn’t reflect what they actually look like.

All my pics are cropped close up so that 90% of me is hidden. Wrinkly cleavage pushed together to appear youthful. Filtered to hide my many flaws. Stocking tops close up and my cankles cropped out of view. How else would I get a meet.

"It's an interesting Q...what did/do you consider deceitful about what you saw ?

Probably 80% of messages to me are along the lines of 'you have the body of a 30 yo'... And I'm like, err, no i don't... It definitely looks and feels its age

It puts me off meeting as they are likely to be disappointed that I'm not what THEY thought I was as in their head they are already expecting a perfect 30yo

So which side is the deception on? "

We just got one that said 'you have the body of a 19 year old'... obvious bullshit/whatever but the funny thing was that on his profile the 30+ year old said he was seeking older women?!

Only met one person so far for a friendly social/shoulder... She was exactly as she showed herself to be.

We all post good flattering pictures of ourselves on here I think. There is no way I would show off my pretty epic morning hair.

I do think about if it's misleading but frankly it's just me in my pics. Organic and hairy.

I guess I've been lucky. But looks aren't everything if you have a connection.

My photos are taken from the best angle but my profile does state that I am a big woman.

When I’ve met people I’ve always said to them that if I’m not what they were expecting then I won’t be offended if they’d rather not stay.

"As with anything on the internet I think you have to almost expect a certain level of embellishment when it comes to profiles, photos and even verifications on here.

At the end of the day nobody is going to post photos from the least flattering angles, or highlight their worst aspects."

"You have to almost expect a certain level of embellishment"

And heron lies the problem. Folk just need to be honest FFS. People are far more accepting of someone who has a few more grey hairs, put on half a stone or is 3 inches shorter than claimed etc than someone who claims to be 5 stone lighter or 10 years younger than they are!

The only thing being selective with the truth does is piss people off.

None of us are perfect, own it and be honest about it.

No brainer.

As if they have a recent pic or when was the pic taken and have they put on/off weight etc.

As soon as you meet, if you feel their pic and profile is not what they claimed, make excuses and piss off home.

When I think about it I don't think we've ever met anybody via here that looked how we'd expected.

Often the pics of the man are very vague so that's always a lottery. I'm doubtful if more than half of them were the age they claimed (and we know for certain that some are a lot older ).

Hasn't been a big deal for what's usually been a quick spur of the moment meet, nobody's been hideous but I don't think I'd ever have much confidence in knowing what to expect via this site. Better to meet at clubs for that.

Ask them to send pics from unflattering angles. Not holding phone on top of the head, not cropped etc. Not wearing make up. Not smoothed. ask for raw and see how comfortable they are with request. Might be putting off for some if you come barging with these requests but will reduce your disappointment.

I don't meet pics, I meet people.

Always after chatting for a while so I can usually suss out how misleading they are as a person.

That shop window approach to our profiles means we have to have the best display possible to attract others so I've no issue with anyone using the best angles and lighting. I've no time for heavily filtered pics because they all look the same.

It's your profile...just say what you want and don't want. Why would you be worried about people potentially taking offence when you don't want to meet them anyway? You can absolutely state your preference quite easily - most of us have some sort of preference - you don't have to be rude or obnoxious about it, just be clear

This is why socials are so important to me, and that’s for both sides! I met a lady last year for a social, and she was the opposite to her images and personal description of herself! Also personality wise! I felt terrible, but she just wasn’t for me!

It’s interesting to see the responses on here, there was another forum post recently Re filters on pics, I was expecting the same responses here, but they’re quite different!

"I get that people want to look attractive in their pics, they want to look their best, and yes, I’m sure many of us show off our best angles, rather than purposefully posting the bits we don’t like about ourselves but I would hate to think that someone meeting me would feel that I was disappointingly not what they were expecting, it’s a crap way to start things off when you meet someone "

Yes, exactly this^^

Which is why, when I’m chatting to anyone I think might turn into an actual meet, I repeatedly warn them that I’m not very attractive, and that my photos are just extremely good scaffolding and angles/lighting. You can’t polish a turd.

But, saying that, I only meet people I connect mentally with anyway. I don’t think I’ve ever asked any potential meet for a face pic; if I want to meet them it’s because I like who they are. What they look like won’t change that in the slightest.

On a mooch

People will always put their best angle photos up.

Some photos my legs look a lot longer than they are, photos don’t move so you don’t see the wobbles, a well placed arm or hand will hide the baby shelf. If you ask for a face pic you’ll get a tired looking, no makeup one and I have a video that shows the belly laughing as it’s grabbed and moved.

It all comes down to communicating honestly with each other.

I think it's pretty easy to see that most body pictures are taken from flattering angles, with careful posing and placing of limbs or props. And most of the time face filters are done so heavily that I find it comical that people actually believe it's a natural photo...how many people in their late 40's do you know in everyday life that don't even have a hint of crows feet? I certainly don't know many.

I do think it's deceitful, especially with face pics. And I'm not sure what people that do it hope to achieve if they're actually looking to meet...are they only going to let the other person look at them via their phone screen with the filters turned on?

I do think it's deceitful, especially with face pics. And I'm not sure what people that do it hope to achieve if they're actually looking to meet...are they only going to let the other person look at them via their phone screen with the filters turned on? "

I’d love a filter to take out my eye bags until I have the surgeon sort them

"Ask them to send pics from unflattering angles. Not holding phone on top of the head, not cropped etc. Not wearing make up. Not smoothed. ask for raw and see how comfortable they are with request. Might be putting off for some if you come barging with these requests but will reduce your disappointment.

If someone asked me too do that they would be told where to go

I know. But it's a solution of sorts. I do recall being shocked by some appearances. So I do like to see: "hey I just woke up" pic eventually..

Just sent one on Face pic Friday so shameless!!

Haha give it to me

Sent

I wanna see

Prepare yourself "

I hope I’m not the only one that doesn’t ask for lots of photos. A nice face pic will do me then chat see if you feel that connection. I’m more bothered about what’s in their head rather than nit picking over their photos

I always say this...my wrinkles show that I've spent my life laughing and smiling...as well as having far too many late nights

Seriously though, when I was looking to meet I'd always send a face pic taken in broad daylight, usually with no makeup, and the only filter I ever use is the black and white one, but I presume people know that I'm not monochrome in person

I don't have to prove I'm genuine or anything else to anyone I tell them when we chat about me if they chose to not believe me that's their problem not mine but I won't video chat especially to people I haven't met I absolutely despise doing it.

People display their best angles - it's the pretty normal. I have (and ask for) some 'general' vanilla pictures, so as to get a true sense of the person. Cam first might help. I'm also happy to do that. However, too much emphasis on this might kill the atmosphere regardless. Perhaps have a social first. It's perfectly reasonable to say, no thank you (or for someone to say no thank you) after a social.

Also your a 50+ year old man who has been lucky enough to meet younger women in there 20's and 30's according to your veris so maybe you should be less rude about it. Sorry to sound harsh but chances are you would not have got sexual encounters with those younger women in real life.

All my pictures could be seen as misleading, from certain angles, I'll look over 6ft when, different lighting/shadows could make me seem more toned. So think best to have social first and let both parties find out from them selves, without awkwardness.

Very true

I travelled for an hour, to be let down in this way - it was a woman with old body type pics. It was only a social and has happened only once to me in eight years.

Not sure what the answer would be, not everyone wants to video call.
