I didn’t have the heart to tell her I couldn’t tell the difference between that and cooking wine, so I just smiled and said it was good

That Johnny Depp lookalike is nothing more than a thief.

Meat isn’t that great, red bulls are £11 EACH and the service charge for that tosser to come around making a mess with all of that rock salt is beyond me.

I’d rather take a dozen homeless people out for food and drink than step foot in that monstrosity of an establishment.

Shows what state the world is in.

People starving and struggling all over the country and those that don’t ever have to go without, have no grasp of reality

I paid £27 for a 12oz sirloin a while back and I thought that was expensive. That's the most I've ever paid for a single course. Each to their own and all that but there's a serious amount of pretentious bull over food and drink and what people are prepared to pay simply so they can tell us what they paid.

Fancy eating really isn't on my radar

I don't get enough from 'the experience' to justify the expense to myself

Eating, to me, is purely functional

It's not something I derive massive pleasure from

That's not to say I don't enjoy food, I am simply not interested enough in it to derive pleasure from the ceremony that often accompanies it

I wouldnt buy supermarket meat regardless which supermarket its from. Doesnt make me 'pretentious' i just like to know the origin/source of whats on my plate im passionate about my food eat organic and local produce thats not pumped full of saline and bulking agents

While we were eating egg, chips n peas in a cafe in Great Yarmouth, we got a £30 parking ticket which we forgot to pay so became £60. So double egg, chips n peas for 2 cost about £70

Most exspensive drink wasted, was coffe pulled up service station 3am ,got my coffe, nodded of for 3 hours oooops , the coffe was cold, and i got a ticket for over staying my welcome.

Sushi and champagne at Armani Hashi recently but I wasn’t paying thankfully , lovely view of the Burj Khalifa and fountains but food wasn’t worth it , think it was about £15k for 10 of us

Gold is an inert element so it's not adding anything other than from a visual point of view.

I'm sure that it's a great restaurant for posting images on Instagram to demonstrate how you have so much money that you're intent on making a restaurant owner with a lot of gold leaf and over-priced food and drink very wealthy.

I'm not talking specifically about meat. I mean the people who will still buy the same branded cornflakes, bread, milk and whatever from certain shops because they don't want to be seen in other shops. The people who may not necessarily be able to afford fine dining but it's all about the image and has to be done so they can tell their neighbours about how much their meal cost.

If someone has got money then spend it how they see fit but if your shopping sprees and dining habits are putting a strain on the household income and taking priority over other things just to project an image then yes it very much is pretentious.

A mate of mine had more money than he had sense, and he judged every restaurant we went to by the price.

He once treated me to the tasting menu at the French at the Midland in Manchester - food was over £100 a head and the wine was a similar price.

It was lovely food, but I have such a poor person's mindset I couldn't properly enjoy it, and it's not like that was so ridiculously expensive (was to me though).

We had a chef's table once at the Fat Duck in Bray, but he would never let on how much that cost so I was able to enjoy it a lot more. I'm willing to bet had I known the price I'd have spent all my time muttering about how overpriced it was and that I could get equally good food for under £20 in Liverpool and he was just being a colossal snob!
