Does your Husband, Wife, Partner,Friend,

associate, accomplice or whatever talk too much!?

Do you sometimes secretly use your mobile phone as an escape route from that/them?

You should (in so many words) be able to answer that without being outed as this is being asked of you privately over a phone!

Advice: A skillful use of an emoji may be sufficient here.

For clarity: Partner, Friend is not one word here.

Many things are good in moderation. Peace and quiet can be the same - and lockdown showed us that. I will hint or say if I'm in need of some space etc, or physically relocate myself, if another is unable to resist contact, unless they are in crisis

My partner can sometimes talk too much, but the most annoying thing is when he doesn't let me finish what I'm saying and jumps to conclusions. I am not afraid to told him to shut up and listen though lol.

About personal space- we only see each other at the weekends, so that's 5 days when we have time to miss each other lol.

The not letting another finish isn't too much fun to deal with..but it's good to hear you make space for yourself to be heard!

SHUT UP YOU SON OF A BITCH! lol

We used to know someone who talked too much. It was a big problem that got worse over the years until they literally hardly drew breath and nobody could get a word in. Nobody realised that it was in fact an early sign of dementia.

The Town by The Cross

It's sometimes fun.

The 'my partner talks too much joke' ...

During lockdown......... I talked the HIND LEGS off my 'buddy' @ the time we could have one person visiting.

Even I wondered why I did it.

Then I realised. He was the only person I had seen or talked to that week.

That was very unusual as I spoke to hundreds of people in a week at work. My rellies on n off and my daughters regularly as well as people I socialised with.

When I was married and we both worked quiet times were welcome by each...

When I was alone with infants 'he' became my only adult contact at the end of each day.

People who live alone ...... older people ........ the 'unpopularables' for what ever reason.

I expect they all talk more than they would if they had sufficient human interaction.

Things improved for me when I realised a problem was brewing and made ways for us all to keep in contact.

Society needs to look out for certain groups , even those in palaces.

I had a friend who used to talk too much for me an overbearing type of chat and you could only hear so much about how cheap the items were he got during his shopping trips!

He did noticeably carry insecurities from his past and his dr*g use didn't help I'm sure.

Thankfully he is still alive and relatively well.

Some people will talk a lot because they believe they're more important/interesting than other people. We were at a party once and just about to leave when a guy who had been telling "fascinating" anecdotes all evening started on yet another. The host said words to the effect of "we all have homes to go to" but the guy replied with "no this is really interesting, I will finish" it wasn't but he did

Some use a thousand words to communicate something that could be said using far less. I may be guilty of doing that on occasion. I sometimes get impatient when that happens. After all it's my time that's being eaten up with unnecessary words

That's an interesting one as sometimes in telling a story it is reasonably completely relived in the speakers words, but we have a bus to catch.

If it is an important subject and your partner or friend or colleague is important to you, then yes I believe talk is important. Too much? It is subjective. What if one is left without feeling being adequally addressed? In my opinion, this is as bad.

I'm a talker, an 'oversharer' as Saff put it, but some of that is a fear of silence. It's a rare connection where you can comfortably share silence (to quote Pulp Fuction) and the bitter irony is I'd found that, but, the oversharing had already started to ruin it for me. If I could fix it I would...

I like what you said about (truly) comfortable silences.

Try having some practised uncomfortable ones for yourself when in the company of others..but that would be dependent on what you think oversharing is? (I am not a doctor)

My daughter Never. Shuts. Up.

For the most part it's complete waffle or a repeat of something she's already said at least twice already. I am guilty of sometimes escaping it or occasionally, if I really can't take it, I will ask her to stop talking. It's not so easy to do when it's your child.

"I’m a regular little Chatty Cathy and I’ll talk to anybody. However I can also listen, some ppl listen but don’t hear It's far easier when their a talker but can also listen..then fold in the third option and it really is good to talk!

I like listening because I like ppl and who they are. You only see who they are when you listen My ears have always been listening ones..but as I get older they are reserved more for those I recieve equal measure from.

I need to adopt that approach with certain friends Sometimes (not very often) it can kick-start them into pretending to really listen!

I’d see right through that Because they don't listen for long!"

I should give them the benefit of the doubt and at least see them as trying to.
