I went to Morrisons after work and their petrol station was shut. My local co-op was busier than normal.

If you think Brits are bad when it comes to not getting fuel, just wait till there is no tea being delivered anywhere

Seriously though, the queues to get fuel blocking roads are ridiculous and that's not even thinking of some of the numpties queueing for fuel only for their cars to sit on the drive with a full tank while they're working from home and barely using their cars.

So I heard a brilliant conspiracy theory about this. For clarity I am no where near a tinfoil hat wearer but I do love a good conspiracy.

Fuel generally has a shelf life. Diesel kept in optimum conditions lasts for 6-12 months. Petrol is similar. Now obviously given that we have been in lockdown and there has been less travel with no disruption to services the theory is this “fuel shortage” is entirely a media circus. Designed to get everyone to go and buy the fuel with a low self life so it goes off in your tank rather than the big companies.

This means they clear their surplus amounts of old fuel kind of like a supermarket reducing the “still fresh” items.

I mean it could be crap but I thought it was just about plausible to be a possibility considering all the other bull that we have experienced with this government in the last two years.

Ooh, that's interesting, as I do visit 'Vulture's corner' in the supermarkets, with the premise of getting tonight's tea.

There is one subtle difference, the shops have the dignity to reduce the prices on the soon-to-be-mouldy food. Shame the filling stations couldn't lower theirs.

6/10 for coming up with a fresh conspiracy theory

yeah it would be nice to get a little discount ha ha. I filled up yesterday (because I needed too as we were having a day out) and I had no issues getting to a pump and every forecourt I drove past was no busier than normal. No queues or shortages.

Dead simple, have someone on the forcourt checking fuel gauges. Any more than a quarter of a tank then turn them away unless they can prove that they have a long journey to go on. Oh and ban people filling up cans too !

After a few days of panic buying, the government adds braincells to the list of shortages.

So I'd have to push my car to the pumps then?

I had to go this morning as I only had 30 miles left in my tank. I was expecting a massive queue but it was really quiet. It was 8.30am too so thought it would be manic. Maybe people are using their brains around here.

The more I hear about this 'shortage' .... the more I think about the leak to the media by an 'unknown' politician....... the more I think about the media HYPE...... which led to overbuying - panic and hysteria the more I think this situation has been deliberately constructed to give the gvt a headache ( NO I AM NOT TORY ) but it seems so very clear to me......

Had the panic not been started - the whole nation would have been able to buy petrol without even being aware of a shortage of lorry drivers or bringing in the army........

In short - over consumption is the problem and it was deliberately driven.

Well I woke to two Labour politicians blaming the government and that despicable creature called Alistar Campbell on the news… they all missed the real reason for the panic, it’s called the media which all these bellends are apart of.. wanker… created by the media, endorsed by knobheads, promoted by ex and serving shit politicians….

I went to 9 different garages yesterday, 7 were closed and 2 were letting people queue up even though the fuel had run out.

9 miles left in the tank

I'm told that in worst case scenario you can run your diesel on cooking oil. Anyone ever tried it,

I have to get petrol today. I need it for my commute to work.

I know people who are working from home or who live a few miles from work who have filled up and are very smug about it !!

Unfortunately I would get arrested if I turned my thoughts into actions!!

"After a few days of panic buying, the government adds braincells to the list of shortages.

This government has never had a surplus of brain cells."

Just like a large number of the population.

What we have is a self fulfilling prophecy. Conceptualised by the media, and made reality by the general public with the inability to critical think.

"A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals and you know it."

Some of us need the fuel to be able to work, do you think I was doing it out of sheer boredom.
