Ongoing Weight Loss Thread

Ok so I've seen numerous threads on here asking for advice about how to lose weight etc but they tend to fizzle out and die a death pretty quickly.

If you're like me and you've put some timber on yet you know what you should be doing to lose that weight, it's far more helpful having somewhere where you can discuss your goals/progress rather than just a thread saying "cut the carbs", "exercise more" etc.

I'm talking more about somewhere where you can set a goal and then check in say weekly to let others know how you're doing. To then discuss what has worked that week and have a general chit chat to keep each other motivated. You don't need to reveal your current weight but maybe you can set a target weight loss and then track via this thread?

Anyone up for it?

I'll start with aiming to lose 3 stone by Christmas.

Why?

For general health purposes.

So I can look good in my shorts when I'm on hols in Fuerteventura in December.

To update my Fab pics.

To fit into the piles of clothes I've bought but never worn!

How?

Stick to gym 5 times a week

Walk more (10,000 steps minimum daily)

Cut "junk" food to maybe one meal a week

Cut snacks (crisps & chocolate)

Actually use "MyFitnessPal" every day rather than days when I've been good!

Anyone else in? (don't leave me hanging.....)

Hi OP, I like the idea of this thread as collaboration and mutual support is far better than going it alone.

I'm lucky, I tend stay fairly trim as I have an active life and excise regularly. Whilst it would be very impressive for you to shed 3 stone by Christmas, I've found (with cycling and running) that small gains over a long period are easier to achieve and maintain; it's about consolidating your achievements so that they become the new normal. Maybe you should aim to lose 1/2 stone by Christmas, then another 1/2 stone by Easter and so on? Aim to lose the 3 stone over 2 years and it'll be more likely to stay off forever.

Good luck with this thread OP and the weight loss.

I’ve found that Consistent exercise, cutting out the snacks (best way is just not have any chocolate/crisps in the house ) and drinking less has resulted in a loss for me.

And a mostly Vegan diet too - I still eat loads - just a bit less greasy!

Once you get into the swing (!) of things it just comes the norm…

1/2 a stone by Xmas?!?!

Haha, FFS it'll take me 5 years to lose what I need.

I should've put that I've previously played sport at a decent level so I'm not exactly starting off from a complete novice level. It's not that I've always had a shit diet/been lazy, it's just cropped up over time and for various reasons.

I'm certainly not intending to do something that I feel is unmanageable as once this weight goes it's staying off for good. I know people who have shed large amounts of weight in a short time following Slimming World / Weightwatchers etc but they've never exercised so as soon as bad eating habits have set in then they've piled it all back on.

The end goal for me is to be setting fitness goals (10k, half marathon, marathon, Triathlon etc).

I'd love to join you, OP, but unfortunately I am still too anxious to try again. I lost nearly 2 stone before but old habits returned too easily under stress and I put on more than I lost.

Good luck with your goal. I think your plan is really good.

I like the idea of this thread!

I was weight training and eating well, getting leaner and more toned, hit a plateau, had to give up PT couldn't afford it, my gym has closed too. So I've joined slimming World, knowing about protien however and using my knowledge to make some tasty food still within SW. I have with help devised a home workout plan. Now I'm over my covid I started today. So my aim is to loose 7lbs in 4 weeks. And hopefully 1.5 stones off before Christmas for starters!

I tried counting calories for a bit and found it rather depressing. For me it’s set some short tens goals (Less of thing x, etc) and see what difference it makes. Not for everybody I know!

Welcome. Reckon you'll smash 7lbs in the next month.

Feel free to keep checking in for some positive reinforcement and to let us know how you're getting on.

Agreed counting calories is tough. However, it's easy to forget that "little choccy bar" I find so tracking calories is just another aid to help alongside the change in diet and increased exercise etc.

OP im lean and toned and I am old, my advice is this,

Consider your body to be a bank account

The food you consume is the money going into the bank account

At the end if every day you need to return a zero balance or be slightly overdrawn

In real terms this will stimulate your metabolism and get it burning, even while you sleep

Never skip breakfast(hard for some I know)

Always cook from fresh basic ingredients

No takeaways

No microwave dinggers

Dont eat after 7 at night

If you need a snack have a piece of fruit

If you get hungry near bed time drink water

Excercise wise a 20 min walk at a pace that raises the heart rate and makes you break sweat will be fine

Few light weights is also good

If u need any help contact me

Cheers, much appreciated. Like I said above though I know exactly what to do... I've played semi-pro football, cycled Lands-End to John O'Groats so I'm not a newbie to eating healthy and exercise. This is purely a means to motivate myself and others to get a little more in shape.

Awww the post has gone quiet!

Count me in though, I'm 8 stone down and 2 stubborn ones to go!

I've also had to get rid of my pt because of cost and my gym closed... clubbercise, calorie counting and gymphobics for me now and at least 10k steps a day!

Always up for a good social and a walk!

Hi everyone. I have lost quite a lot of weight recently, by doing the Exante diet. You buy the products online, and can choose the 800 calories a day plan, or 1200. You can eat normal foods too (not only the products) as long as you keep to your daily calorie allowance. It’s like LighterLife or Cambridge Diet, but cheaper because you’re not using the services of a Consultant. Weight losses average a stone a month. I’m not going to lie, it’s slightly brutal but I’m well into the swing of it now. And there’s a great FB group for support. I have a day off a week - I call it Wotsits Wednesday! - and still lose weight. It wouldn’t be any good for gym bunnies, as light to moderate exercise only is recommended.

Good luck to you all!

Good luck to those losing weight.

Consistency is crucial. Food and exercise go hand in hand.

I listened to a lot of David Goggins for motivation shout in the ear.

Just poppingy head back in and good to see so many people making progress.

TBH I've been shocking with too many distractions over the past week or so but new week means a new start. My meal plannig is a little bit more structured this week and I've got a few days away where hiking and golf should help kickstart things.

I'll no doubt pop back in next Monday and let you all know what I've managed to achieve!
