That you'd rather forget. But forget things you wish you could remember.

8 years ago today my partner of 20 years died, unexpectedly. I can remember every detail of that day,and of the days I lost other important people in my life. But I only have vague recollections of happy days. I'm not here looking for sympathy

Very much so.

I think it's coz the pain cuts deeper and harder and feels so damn unfair.

Yes, that is true although sad memories often come with happy ones attached, no ? I miss many people like crazy but that's mixed with good thoughts about them which make me smile.

Yes

Think I seem to remember the bad bits from childhood or life easier than the good ones

Sorry to hear that.

I find it depends on my mood. I mostly remember good stuff though. It must be difficult when you're working through grief and I think that a day like you experienced eight years ago would be etched in your memory.

Someone we know lost a parent at a very young age over 20 years ago and is only now starting to be able to remember the good things.

It will be 24 years in January when I lost my first wife to cancer. And similar to yourself I remember everything of that week.

However, I have been lucky to remember most of life’s happy moments both prior and after. Although trying to remember where I have put my keys at times is a whole different ball game!

Its because of the trauma involved...we recall trauma more readily than happier memories
