Amazing guy who was the neurosurgeon/ medical advisor at Formula 1 races. His work has made racing safe for the drivers out there nowadays.

Great man

Having been a former race marshall at knockhill and at the british gp,I have seen first hand the safety advances made thanks to this guys input.

A sad loss to the worlds of medecine and motorsport.

My thoughts are with his family

Was watching Formula One - The Killer Years on BBC4 only the other night. Sometimes hard to remember just how much Sid Watkins and his team did to improve the safety of F1, but that programme brought it home.

There are many, many drivers alive today - and not just in the racing world - who can thank not just their lucky stars, but also Dr Watkins for their survival..

Thanks from a F1 fan of 44 years standing, Sid. RIP.

If anyone's seen the film Senna ....

You'll know just what an important figure he was in the sport.
