"What's the exchange rate for toilet rolls and petrol? Is it 9 rolls per litre, where you are from?" its ridiculous. I had to try 7 petrol stations to get some fuel and there were queues everywhere. Had my car not been on empty I wouldn't have bothered

"Went past 5 petrol stations today, 3 were fine, 1 had a long queue and 1closed - the last two both BP So from what I saw today complete exaggeration by the media, shock horror!" Three out of three petrol stations in my immediate locality, all different providers, were all out of fuel by about 3pm. Glad I didn't need any today.

Are they getting their fuel from the UK? "The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission told people to only use containers approved for fuel, and not plastic bags. The safety body also tweeted that gas (read petrol) canisters should not be filled up over or near an open flame." This has got to be a once in a lifetime experience! Seriously?

"Went past 5 petrol stations today, 3 were fine, 1 had a long queue and 1closed - the last two both BP So from what I saw today complete exaggeration by the media, shock horror!" Most stations I passed yesterday had small queues but all were open. But the media love a panic story that they can add fuel (sorry) to. Get people to believe that there is a shortage of arse roll on shop shelves, and guess what, people buy more wear roll “just in case”, thereby creating a short term shortage.

It's the fuel can idiots that are causing the problem, utter dickheads. " People getting angry with staff is just unacceptable. So is people trying to fill up cans in addition to their tanks, creating more of a pinch than necessary on supply.

That's a sight I haven't seen before and it certainly isn't normal behaviour. no, it's a reaction by people to the abnormal closing of pumps and forcourts by fuel companies in the couple of days preceeding the scenes you mentioned that you saw on friday. The closing of pumps was caused by the lack of the product at that location, therefore, there was no leave them open. The people reacted abnormally to that news. It is abnormal behaviour to buy the jerry cans and fill it with petrol when the product is freely available at your location. I beg to differ. this is normal behaviour never a second thought with a capitalist mindset. .....and that is why Communism was such a roaring success. What I ment was that if one person capitalises everything for them self there is nothing for anyone else." Ah, I see, my apologies. However, I beg to differ with you about the capitalist mindset of hoarding for themself. That is simply a selfish trait, not reflective of the economic system of one's opinion.

"I had to get petrol yesterday as my light was on ….. I fill it up then wait till it’s empty then fill it up again…. That’s normal isn’t it? I had to queue at Tesco’s for about 50 mins….. I wouldn’t have filled up if not empty ….. it’s total madness xxx" It's normal, yes. But many tosspots with 3/4 full tanks were out topping up and filling up cans with extra fuel. Mainly because they are too stupid to understand that there's no shortage of fuel in this country.

"Don't understand why petrol stations can't just say filling fuel tanks only, no jerry cans, plastic barrels, wheelie bins or carrier bags." ^^^This. They could even station staff on the forecourt to prioritise emergency service vehicles and to only allow those with, say, a 1/4 of a tank or less to fill up. With a cap on amount for non emergency service vehicles. Emergency vehicles should be allowed to completely fill the tank. That'd stop the panic buyers pretty quickly because you'd not be able to "top up" a nearly full tank. However, I'm sure such actions would result in self entitled twats giving argy-bargy and becoming troublesome. The Govt. should be organising tankers to deliver directly to emergency vehicle depots or reserve forecourts for emergency vehicles because the fact ambulances are queuing for over an hour, restricted to 30-40l of fuel is utterly ridiculous and an unacceptable risk to the public. Ditto fire engines, police vehicles etc.

Perhaps set aside one pump for emergency services only, until the numpties stop panicking.

"Everybody buying fuel really, really needs their fuel and everybody else is the numpty Ive noticed. " I filled up (from empty) last weekend, when there was apparently no crisis. A full tank of diesel usually does me at least a fortnight. I'm on just less than 3/4 tank after today. So yes, I'll describe the panic buyers as numpties. If anyone "topped up" their car, filled cans with extra fuel etc, then they are contributing to the problem. If I have to queue when I next fill up, then so be it, but it'll be because I actually need fuel......

"Welcome to the reality of Brexit. benefits the few fucks over the majority. And stop panicking it fucks it up for everyone. So why did America have fuel shortages in May this year? Are they getting their fuel from the UK? "The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission told people to only use containers approved for fuel, and not plastic bags. The safety body also tweeted that gas (read petrol) canisters should not be filled up over or near an open flame." This has got to be a once in a lifetime experience! Seriously?" The Americans had a fuel shortage because Russian hackers managed to shut down the main pipeline going from the south to the north east…… That’s not really what is going on here though… this one is all self inflicted

So even though you don't know her situation and why she was doing that you want to become an arsonist A friend of mine did this today at a petrol station with full permission of the garage because she is a care home manager in a rural area and needed to make sure her staff could get to work so was giving them a petrol can each in case they couldnt get fuel. Yes idiots are panic buying but there is also legitimate reasons as to why people may be getting more feel when you think I might need.

Whilst I'm not disputing there are very rare exceptions to the rule, it's generally people who aren't the brightest who rush out and panic buy stuff. Unfortunately, rational thinking is missing in a lot of people as was proved with shortages of loo rolls, beans, flour, eggs etc etc last year during lockdown.

If everyone is going to work as per normal then queues would be few and far between because people would be using the same amount of petrol. If someone needs say, half a tank once a week for general commuting purposes, why do they now need a full tank plus additional jerry cans? I'm pretty sure during lockdown people were told not to panic buy because the supply chain would ensure everything would be available as per normal. And what did people do? Yup they went out and stripped the shelves. And whilst I haven't seen much of the news recently I'm pretty sure they haven't said "hey guys, we're running out of fuel so you better all rush and get as much as you can before it goes!".
