It does indeed but when I was wealthier I was not happy.

I work my socks off to pay the mortgage, bills and car so never much left for me. I am good with money though and can manage well. I buy lovely clothes fom charity shops and never pay more than 20p for a loaf of bread. Money is not everything but health and happiness is.x

I walked away from a (net)£15k/mth lifestyle, to less than nothing.

It's been a tough life, adjusting, particularly taking my kids out of such an affluent area to where we are now.

When you give up everything, the important things come to the fore.

It's restrictive, yes.

Things I've salvaged and renovated, made best of, to furnish my home, make me smile. I've reconnected with family and old friends, I've discovered new hobbies...

My inner peace is beaming. I find happiness in a blue sky, or my faithful mutt, or K when he turns up with those adorable eyes.

Yes, I have worries about finances and the future... I just need to be kind to myself and believe that my decision was the right one and everything will work out OK.

I remember the days of my fridge being a carrier bag of milk and cheese hanging off the handle of the back door. I still had fun though: free books from the library, listening to the radio and picking up cheap games to play from charity shops and car boots. Good times.

I remember a conversation i had with a lovely lady from the Philippines. I was telling her how much I felt for the poor people over there, that year they had quite a few Typhoons in a short period of time. Which caused repeated death and destruction in the same area.

She commented how despite having their homes repeatedly destroyed, the communities come together and the happiness and love people express from helping each other rebuild again. She also mentioned the attitude of people here who have most of the basics but are more miserable than those people. Put things into a bit of perspective.

That's a very shallow comment to make. Some of the best people I know have lived on the poverty line.

There's many 'men' here who brag about their financial wealth...they try to use it to get a meet...sending me pics of there material commodities...fast cars, villas etc... It's a total turn off tbh...

Money doesn't buy happiness.

But it bloody well helps.

I was blessed after I left my well paid but highly stressful long hours job to be supported by my partner setting up our own company and being totally broke but unbelievably happier and healthier.

9 years later and I've never looked back.

Money does not bring happiness.

If you are skint you need to make your money work for you. Not the other way around..

Pay for essentials first.

Mortgage, utilities, food, car and fuel if you need them.

What you have left you need to make it work for you.

Expensive phone is a luxury. Expensive TV and subscriptions luxury. Gym luxury. Alcohol luxury. Fags luxury. High fashion brands luxury.

You don't need luxuries to enjoy life. The outside world is a gym.

People are better than any TV or phone.

The brands your wear. Do not maketh the man....

Be smart. Be harsh. Think do I need this. Can I downsize.

Make your left over cash work for you. Dont safe it or bank it, but Invest it. Even if it's 10-20 a month. Money that works for you and grows is better than wasting it on extras.

£10 investment that doubles in a couple of years is a gamble worth taking.

Manchester (he/him)

I often find that these things are relative. To one person being broke means being down to their last hundred pounds for a few days so they can’t go out on the weekend or get their nails done for a few days. To someone else it means that they have to chose between food or power, or whether to eat or feed their kids.

I hear this money saving advice a lot , it’s very bad advice tbh it keeps your poor . You should focus all your efforts to increasing your earning potential and reducing tax and saving, it’s much much easier than saving a few pounds and actually gets you out the situation. You just have to be patient as it can take 2 to three years. Start by 80/10/10 ,commit to always live on 80% and save 10%

Agreed. There is ALWAYS going to be someone worse off. There’s also plenty of people who are better off, so why do people never focus on that?? “You have to be grateful because there are people worse off” Yes, but there are people having champagne lunches everyday, I wanna be like those people!

Can’t judge swift thinking

Jokes on you I would of went to 110£

Omg lol. Have I actually blocked you hahaha…maybe you were the one who offered me £70 then. Whoops! "

I’m the one that called you sweet cheeks and you didn’t appreciate it remember?

So I thought by offering you money I’d come across less a creep ?

Anyway needless to say this has been a right shit show

"Research how many people died from hunger In last 2 years then moan about being skint tell that to the 4,000,000 people in Britain living below the breadline, who have to make the choice of paying bills or putting food on their table, who will soon have to make the choice between heating and food

I really dislike this attitude of, there’s always people worse off than you, yes of course there are, but it doesn’t mean your situation doesn’t suck, and that you aren’t allowed to get down about it.

Agreed. There is ALWAYS going to be someone worse off. There’s also plenty of people who are better off, so why do people never focus on that?? “You have to be grateful because there are people worse off” Yes, but there are people having champagne lunches everyday, I wanna be like those people! "

Me toooo

If you really want to appear less creepy, forget calling me “sweet cheeks” or offering money - have you considered sending a picture of your cock? That normally helps… it’s the least creepiest method of communicating with a woman. Thank me later!

Chippenham Malmesbury area

I'm very lucky as I've never been skint. I'm not wealthy though, far from it but I am surrounded by riches though; these come in the form of things such as: my family that I love to bits, my few but very loyal friends, my house that I haven't stopped working on since I moved in 10 years ago but has a really good vibe to it and my 26 year old motorbike that's a bit rough around the edges but is a real head-turner and a joy to ride.

I also get a lot of happiness out of the free things in life such as walking and running, gathering free food and days at the beach or in the countryside.

"Enough said

Never admit you are broke on here as a bloke. You have just stuffed any chance of getting a leg over

That's a very shallow comment to make. Some of the best people I know have lived on the poverty line.

There's many 'men' here who brag about their financial wealth...they try to use it to get a meet...sending me pics of there material commodities...fast cars, villas etc... It's a total turn off tbh..."

agree totally.

Some people say you don’t need money to be happy, which should be true, and it’s easy for ones with money to say that. But it’s bloody difficult if you haven’t got any and can’t afford the essentials and occasional luxuries. And then if you are short, you get charged extra for late payments, and extra fees at the bank. All that does is make you more skint than you were in the first place
