Wasted on you

So, we're clearing the attic bedroom out for a re-vamp

In so doing, I discovered a boxed bottle of vintage Dom Perignon that was gifted to my OH by his boss some years ago, on gaining a First in his degree

As nice a gift as it is, it is kinda 'wasted' on him because he isn't a champagne drinker

So, it just sits, accumulating dust

---

So my questions are:

What lovely gifts have you received that were kinda 'wasted' on you?

What did you do with them, or do you still have them?

Ive got a cupboard full of boxes of chocolates. Bought for me by some of the loveliest people i know....some of whom know i cant eat chocolate but bought them for me because they're either unusual or looked pretty! I tend to sneak a box or two over to my mums, every time i visit but the pile doesnt seem to go down!

Bottles of Bailey's. I like it but I so rarely drink that it was really a waste. I did give most of it away but just last week tipped a bottle down the sink because it went out of date in 2016.

I remember my Auntie buying me tops and jumpers for birthdays and Christmas in a size medium

I've not been an adult medium since I was about 10

I did tell her, but still they kept coming

Uhhhm. Not presents, ppl know to just buy chocolate on that front

But my mum is a charity shop fiend and is always bringing stuff round. Most of it just goes back to charity, I do tell her to stop bless her.

Toiletries, I have stuff that I like to use and and I don't really use anything else but when it comes to birthdays or Christmas people seem to buy me toiletries.

I have a horrendous dinner set which was a wedding present and has never been used. In fact it could be worth money now seeing as I got married in the dark ages!

And about 8 bottles of champagne from my 40th and 50th! I don’t like it. May make Buck’s Fizz

Drink them or give them away. We were at a wine tasting thingy recently and the guy doing the presentation said keeping regular champagne for a special occasion is a waste of time as the taste degrades. He said to drink it and enjoy it...all round to yours for Bucks Fizz

now I'm imagining myself enjoying a holiday breakfast while Bucks Fizz serenade me over the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. Whilst I deliberate between white, brown or mixed toast encouraging me with a rousing chorus of "making your mind up".

I don't think I've ever had a gift that I wasn't able to use.

A gym membership would be a terrible waste.

I tell you what's wasted on me, hints. You can hint all you like, unless you tell me outright I'm unlikely to pick up on it.

Flowers, I just don't like cut flowers...they make my eyes itch and I prefer to see them growing.

I always appreciate the gesture, but usually give them to someone else

Chocolates, not really for me, I used to tell my mother every Christmas “please don’t buy a tin of chocolates for me” and every year I had a tin of chocolates bought for me The lads at work appreciated them though

I had my 40th during lockdown in march. My friend got me my favourite drink. Calvados. It was a expensive bottle.

I drink 2 glasses of it a year. Christmas Eve and New year's Eve.....

This bottle will never get opened... I've got others to get through and I will never live long enough....

I’d rather have no gift than an unconsidered gift. Show me that you know me is my mantra when it comes to gift giving. My ex used to buy me cheap plastic landfill junk, despite knowing full well that I hate shit like that

Was clean out and noticed I had one with a Bluetooth speaker turns out after looking it up to see if it was waterproof it turns out it’s defective and should have been sent back in like 2015 for battery fire hazard
