My new slow cooker

Jump to newest

It’s terrific.

It’s digital and it has snazzy blue digital display.

I bought it last week and so far I’ve done chilli, chicken curry, chicken casserole, cottage pie and a bolognese.

All have been delicious, spare the slightly undercooked potato on my cottage pie.

Anyone got any interesting delicious slow cooker recipes or ideas?

I really wanna try making a cake in it

Oh… nearly forgot, tits arse fanny cock.

Cakes are good, but put a tea towel under the lid to stop the condensation dripping back into the cake mix and making it soggy.

Ooooooooo, we could have tender Sam in it

Syrup sponge pudding - do the normal recipe, stick it in a pudding basin with loose foil top, stand it in the slow cooker with water about halfway up and then steam away.

You can also do roast chicken - put the breast upside down.

Minestrone soup (Google Eighth Day Minestrone soup recipe and just chuck it all in)

Curries - various

Pork loin - put white wine over and slowly poach

Slow cooked ribs - smother in BBQ sauce or other desired sauce and cook for ages

Slow coookers are awesome! Food tastes so good and tender when it’s done.

There’s loads of good free recipes on the Tesco Sainsbury and Aldi websites. Can recommend the slow cooked pulled pork on the Aldi site.

Never done a cake in mine, but I use a smart plug socket with mine so I can remotely switch it on and off, they only work with analogue slow cookers though.

Why no one has a UK-sold fully remotely-controllable smart home, smart cooker I’ll never know. They are sold in the U.S so why not here I don’t know!

Lamb shanks are great in the slow cooker - make sure you've properly seared them, lightly fry some celery, carrots, onion and minced garlic, bottle of cheap red stuff, plonk it all in with some thyme (ideally tie it with twine so it's easier to remove), bay leaves and beef stock. And a good tablespoon of tomato puree. Make sure you season the shanks properly and also the fried soffrito base - pat the shanks dry for the best finish.

I normally cook it on low heat for about 9/10 hours, high around 5. Low is best because then the onions are cara_elized beautifully with it all.

Serve with mint jelly and potato dauphinoise, perfect.

You can also do macaroni cheese in the slow cooker without having to make a roux - use whole milk, butter, you'll have to pre cook the pasta but then add all the cheese you fancy; taleggio, mozzarella (not the wet soggy stuff) raclette, good old fashioned cheddar (but medium at least, you won't be able to taste mild).

Slow cookers are great for knocking something up the day before and reheating the next day … all the flavours mix together to give an much richer meal. At Xmas I use it to prepare the ham in pear cider and then roast it with a honey and mustard glaze and use ginger instead of cloves to give it an festive taste

Land of the Long White Cloud

I make my Christmas pudding in mine. Just steamed on high in the sealed pudding basin.

Rice pudding is gorgeous and I keep seeing Facebook feeds about Pavlova done in the slow cooker that I need to try.

Corned beef - cover with water. 10 black peppercorns, 2 bay leaves and a tablespoon of brown sugar. On low for 8hrs.

Roast chicken - skin doesnt crisp up, but meat so tender it falls off bone.

I do so much in mine as I have more time in the mornings. Gammon - just pour a can of over it. Pork joint - again a can of and you’ve got pulled pork. Whole chicken (upside down so the juices run to the breast) lamb joints. Chilli, casseroles, curry, even lasagne (you just don’t get the crispy top).

Couldn’t do without it. Have fun with your new toy

Shoulder of pork, cooked in full fat ..

Top tip - if you're following a non slow cooker recipe, half the amount of liquid stated - a slow cooker keeps a lot more liquid within the pot so you don't need as much as say simmering on hob..

Enjoy!

Pork ribs.

Full fat .

Take off the membrane, slice the ribs so they fit in your pot, throw over the till they are more or less submerged. Leave them for 8-10 hours.....after 8-10 hours have the oven on full whack....put the ribs on some foil on a baking sheet, put your preferred BBQ on (quite like reggae reggae personally) let it bubble till it's all sticky (20min ISH)

Eat.

Use the bolognese recipe to do the meat for a lasagne, then finish it in the oven.

I use chunks of beef and pork belly (along with bacon lardons) and cook it until the meat falls apart, rather than using mince. Pop in a beef stock cube and a dash of soy sauce in there too to really kick it up a notch.

Bam!
