When you've been shat upon at a great height by your parents as a kid. It comes from necessity. As I've gotten older I'm able to talk my problems through with others, but I use them as a sounding board more than anything. I don't expect anyone to fix me. I understand my triggers and weaknesses more than anyone else. I know how to get myself back on track. And that's all that matters to me.

Never had anyone emotionally support me my entire life. No one has ever cared enough to notice. Even in the darkest times. Most recently when I separated and had to sell the house I had no where to live until the last minute and my cousin offered me a room. I was all set to live in my car for a bit. I will be eternally grateful to him for that.

I think ultimately the only person you can save is yourself. I say this having come from the darkest of places more than once.

That being said, no (wo)man is an island - from the way we were shaped and nurtured in childhood, the resources we've gathered being part of society, the safety nets we take for granted. Friends, family, random inspiration.

It's a team effort in many ways. It takes a whole village to raise us all up, to adapt a phrase.

Can't think of anyone left in ordinary life that would do that much when I'm at rock bottom. That said, there are a few on here who have helped me enormously at times with a kind word or a little gift, enough to let me know that I'm not on my own. You know who you are xxx. I hope that I have managed to do the same for others when they need it.

So it will be the police cuffing me in my underpants & me getting sectioned? I don't think so cos I'm a very tuff mental scrapper! But you never know what will be the trigger or push you?

Most people will be too wrapped up in their lives until it happens to them or someone they love dearly....

One close friend I can think of perhaps if he is aware?

I'm very used to having to pick myself back up.

It feels very odd when someone is supportive and it's taken a while to get used to it.

If you pick yourself back and don't lean on anyone else you can stick two fingers up at whatever made you fall with a greater sense of satisfaction.

My best friend of nearly 30yrs, we’ve supported each other through many difficult times, my parents & my kids. I feel blessed in that respect.

However, it’s always been ultimately me who drags my ass up from the floor, puts that positive head on even when I don’t feel like it and just gets on with it the best I can..

If I wasn't able to hide my 'falling down' then though I only ever expect myself to pick me up, I know I'm lucky to be surrounded by friends and family, colleagues and neighbours who would be there. The problem I have is that I'm incredibly stubborn and feel enormous guilt if my problems impact others, so my retort is usually 'Oh I'm fine!,Don't worry!'

Even so, it has made me stronger and it has made me realise how others may need help. So whether they are friends or not and despite anything that may have happened in the past, I'll always try to offer a hand and to be there if or when they need it.
