Anyone else just stuck in a dead end job looking non stop for some light at the end of the tunnel to get out. I keep thinking of becoming self employed but it’s such a tricky one with the bills to pay and businesses take a while to find there feet. Has anyone on here been successful escaping a dead end job? That would be great motivation for a few of us I’m sure!

I had a job interview last week for a role I’ve been working towards for the last 15 years. I feel quite confident I got the job, so much so that my friend who is in the role currently said he’d spoken to one of the interviewers who said I passed.

However until I get the email or letter confirming I have the job I’m still nervous. Mainly because I’ve had a lot of bad news this year, personal stuff and health. So this could be the start of my luck changing.

Stay strong and try to plan a way out, that’s all I can advise or suggest. I did and hopefully my reward will appear in my inbox

Every job I've ever had has been dead-end.

I was self-employed for a bit, but it didn't work out. Dealing with HMRC broke me so I went back to wage sl*very.

"Job satisfaction" is a lovely idea, it doesn't pay the rent or buy food or anything.

I was sick of dead end jobs that just seemed like depression traps. Decided to join the army. Best thing I ever did. Got some good qualifications out of it as well.

Becoming self employed has been the best thing I ever did.

You are right, there is the fear of paying bills but after 6 years of growing and now having savings I feel much happier.

Though I'm looking to move and my buying power is greatly reduced....

But on balance I'm much happier.

I’m self employed and absolutely love my job! However I’m always struggling to pay the bills! Would I switch it for a stable job and wage, but in a dead end job that I didn’t like? Not a chance, no way on earth!

I started a business last November because I was sick of employment. Couldn’t be happier now.

Go for it, what’s the worst that could happen?? Probably that you end up exactly where you are now, having to get a similar job. So you’re already in your worst case scenario!

But the best that could happen is being your own boss and it working out - good luck!

I was in this situation three and a half years ago,looked for another job couldn't find one that I wanted to do so become self employed best thing I ever did, I won't get rich doing it, I work longer hour's but can honestly say I've never been happier since I started school

I, Mr, was furloughed and subsequently the company i worked for went broke and closed. It was a csse of needs must but worked in a supermarket for a yesr or so, but have joined a company doing a dream job.

The new career is doing something I planned on doing on leaving school, only to leave at a time where local employers were letting people go or closing down in the mid 1980's.

So in short an example of dreams coming true. Happy Days

I retrained as an EFL teacher a few years ago and have had the most job satisfaction that I've had in my life. It's always worth working out what you're good at and going from there.

Genuinely I was in a job I hated for years but was stuck in the circle of decent wages & I knew the job inside out, being honest the thing that kept me with the company longer was my co workers we had a sort of family vibe and really close, in the end I made the decision and left, I set up my own business and literally wish I done it long before I did as it’s great, challenging yes but so are most things in life that are worth while doing. If we don’t do anything about the things we can control we can’t really complain about them. We spend so much of our lives working we should at least do our best to spend in a job we enjoy.

Self-employment isn't for everyone. I went S.E. after 25 years working for companies and, for me, it's fantastic!

I work when I want.No bosses breathing down my neck.

I could never go back to being employed.

I waited 20 years to find my current job , 2 years in and I couldn't be happier with the jump. The wait was so much worth it when I look back now.

Well I've just had a memeber of the public tell me to fuck off and die because we don't let people out if their cars to covid rest their kids because there is too much risk to staff. Management knew and bent over backwards so he could get out....

It's a good job I need the money

Oh yes ,sane job since 1989 no safety no hr that comes with a bigger company one knee replaced other on Monday so now not fit enough to change jobs and never had a desk job .
