A breed that only come alive in the bedroom but really have nothing else to say?

I would say that sapiosexuals as they call themselves on their profiles usually try to outsmart you and rank themselves higher in intelligence at the first opportunity.

I’ve met one or two and they haven’t tried to do that at all. Perhaps because I’m so thoroughly moronic that I’m not seen as much of a challenge

I don't think sapiosexuals (well from my experience and observations on the forum) are particularly. They'll still lust after a not particularly bright, pretty young thing. It sounds nice. An ideal version of who they'd like to sex but intelligence isn't a requirement to get to know them carnally. More a thing they'd like/a way of sounding like they want a deeper connection*.

*obviously not all sapiosexuals, some of them aren't that bad.

Some people are attracted to athletic bodies, some people are attracted to brains, etc. Sapiophile and sapiosexual mean you are attracted and aroused by a partner showing intelligence, culture, etc. It doesn't mean you think yourself smarter than everyone else. You can have an average body shape yet be attracted to athletic types, can't you?

"What does the Sapio in sexual mean?"

Its derived from the Italian left back Antonio Sapioli who played for Inter in the 1930's. He is reputed to have had an IQ of 184 and wrote several books on modernist architecture.

In my view as a sapiosexual, I listen and watch more than talk.

I'm neither above or below anyone else.

I just love to hear other peoples thoughts, experiences and views, I find it stimulates the mind and you can make a great connection with a person.

As for the bedroom (or wherever sex takes place) I'm more demisexual.

Rummage Under Jumper

I thought a sapiosexual was someone that was aroused by intelligence - i guess they could be thick as 2 short planks but like that the other person is smart? I think some just use the term as others have said to be a bit ‘ im smarter than you’ and others maybe to reinforce that a massive cock and abs isnt what gets them going - they want something between the ears more.

That isn’t to say brains and abs with big dick isnt possible theres tons of smart people on here. But theres also tons of knuckle draggers.

Attraction is a funny thing isn’t it? Im just waiting for a woman with such bizarre taste that she finds me irresistible

"I would say that sapiosexuals as they call themselves on their profiles usually try to outsmart you and rank themselves higher in intelligence at the first opportunity.

I’ve met one or two and they haven’t tried to do that at all. Perhaps because I’m so thoroughly moronic that I’m not seen as much of a challenge

It's not even about prowess though of course that helps. But if they can excite my mind the body quickly follows. Respect on that but isn't that generally the case anyway!"

No i think many people are more visual than i am. Nothing wrong with that just as there is nothing wrong with preferring intelligence. Luckily we all have a myriad of preferences so there is a chance for all to find their lid.

Sapiosexual does and can get quite a bad press at times. It can come across as egotistical or elitist to some, I’ve seen others call it ableist.

To me though it’s the fact that a persons mind or intelligence is attractive to another.

Words and meanings can be clumsy and open to various personal connotations, language is an imperfect tool after all, but to me it’s fairly straightforward and simple; attraction based on the mental not just the physical. Seeing as how so many seem to base attraction on more than just looks, at least some of that must fall into this for many

I think there is a big difference between a sapiophile and a sapiosexual though both are massively overused on Fab. A sapiosexual is aroused by intelligence. That is not the same as saying that they find intelligent people more arousing,it is a fetish like being aroused by feet. It means there need be no attraction or interest in the rest of the person, the display of intelligence alone is enough to create sexual arousal. I may be wrong but it seems unlikely that there would be a many people with this rather unique fetish as Fab profiles would have you believe.

A sapiophile is a person who's primary romantic attraction to a person is intellectual. This is perhaps closer to what many mean in that they prefer a person with a perceived level of intelligence as they connect better with such people - whether or not they intend the romantic implications of this word is a different question.

Preferring the company of intelligent people, having more of a connection with them and therefore having better sex isn't sapiosexual. Watching a video of Steven Hawking explain the radiative loss of matter from black holes and finding yourself unable to resist having a wank is. Aside from that, it's an inaccurate way of saying I don't tend to get on with people I consider thick so unless you reach my arbitrary standards of intelligence I'm unlikely to like you never mind fuck you. Oh, and when I say intelligent I mean not less than me but preferably not too much more as that will make me feel inadequate.

Just my opinion of course

Mr

Ableism is discrimination against disabled people.

Classism is prejudice against people belonging to a particular social class, although in practice it's aimed exclusively at "lower" ones.

Is the implication then that if you are disabled or of "lower class" that you can not/are not attracted by "intelligence"? That would seem rather nonsensical.

I couldn’t describe myself as sapiosexual as for me it’s a combination of both looks and personality/intellect that makes me want to meet someone. That’s hardly unusual - particularly amongst fellow forumites.

I do find it quite fatuous when many people on here claim to be sapiosexual. I’m tempted to make myself look as hideous as possible - turn up quoting Keats and Shakespeare and demand sex!

"I couldn’t describe myself as sapiosexual as for me it’s a combination of both looks and personality/intellect that makes me want to meet someone. That’s hardly unusual - particularly amongst fellow forumites.

I do find it quite fatuous when many people on here claim to be sapiosexual. I’m tempted to make myself look as hideous as possible - turn up quoting Keats and Shakespeare and demand sex! "

Should I laugh!

"I saw an excellent post on another sex-related website that made a compelling argument that the entire concept of "sapiosexuality" is both ableist and classist. Can you explain ableist (most able?) and classist to us..it would help.

Thanks for your input though.

Ableism is discrimination against disabled people.

Classism is prejudice against people belonging to a particular social class, although in practice it's aimed exclusively at "lower" ones. Why should Sapiosexuals be accused of prejudicing the disabled..I don't see the link?"

The concept of sapiosexuality is inherently ableist because the markers of "intelligence" in our society are intrinsically ableist too. Literacy is the big obvious one; the society-wide assumption is that someone who struggles with reading and writing is "less intelligent", which discriminates against people with conditions like dyslexia.

Seriously – speak to any neurodiverse individual, and they'll have endless stories of being treated like they're an idiot just because their brains operate differently to the socially mandated "norm".

Is the implication then that if you are disabled or of "lower class" that you can not/are not attracted by "intelligence"? That would seem rather nonsensical. "

No, that is not the implication at all. You've got it exactly backwards. The issue is that the concept of "sapiosexuality" discriminates against people who don't display the socially accepted markers of a certain very narrow kind of intelligence.

My OP was brought about by a person who used the word sapiosexual in her profile..yet when encountered in messaging was monosyllabic and that was a person with enough verifications to be real and a well verified (with ALL well written veris!) user of the site.

I did notice she had put the singular word bored....up a few times in updates!

my own little sanctuary

Sapiosexual is by definition finding intelligence attractive. I consider myself sapiosexual and the intelligence I value is emotional intelligence above all. I wouldn’t say that’s a bad thing, quite the opposite in fact. I think it’s fair to say that although NSA is perfect for some in the lifestyle for a good proportion a bit more depth to an encounter is preferred.

It shows what you’re after not what you are.

Also it’s a lot more inclusive than many would think. Hence it’s a popular word in the lgbtq+ community as it shows what ones preferences are without being specific but equally demonstrating ones ability to find attraction in ways far less shallow than just looks.

For example; I see many women in vanilla life say they want a man who is good at sensing their feelings. That is interpersonal intelligence.

Camberley occasionally doncaster

I've found that people who start labelling themselves as sapiosexual are in the same category as guys who claim to be Alpha..

If you have to mention it... you probably aren't.
