What things are annoyingly expensive

Jump to newest

So contrasting CJ’s thread about what’s surprisingly cheap… I simply had to… what do you think annoyingly expensive? You can make it as ordinary as you can… like a smoothie or a fruit juice at a local cafe (£5.95 around here) to something more elaborate

I have a few … I am sooo surprised and annoyed at how expensive private medications cost and generally going private… jeez, you kinda get what you pay for at your time but still. EXPENSIVE EXPENSIVE

Also, hairdressers round here, extortionate. I wanna cry every time …

You can pickup all private prescriptions from Asda now and they don’t rinse you like most pharmacy with a fee, they charge the cost only. I got a sleeping pill for a flight last week and they changed me just £2.80, cheaper than an NHS prescription!

Supply and demand in a free market capitalist society.

At least you are enrichening the providers and delivering shareholder value and dividends, making others wealthy and keeping them in the lifestyle they are accustomed to.

Or vote with your wallet and don't play that game. You have a choice.

The most annoyingly expensive thing that I know of is a suck, and a fuck in a knocking shop in Swansea. I don't have first hand knowledge myself, but one of my men told me that it cost him more than his days wages for a suck and a fuck, and I thought, that's expensive!!! Especially when with a little natural charm and charisma, he would have got the same for free.

Because it's a cost that cannot be avoided that only women have to fund. I struggle to think of anything else where it is unavoidable for one gender to pay for something every month/week/year etc. And no, razors do not count. It is optional to remove facial or other hair but not optional to bleed down your leg and leave blood clots on the floor of Asda.

We ladies have to bleed, shit and pee. It's an extra, monthly cost, only borne by women. still don't get why it should be free

Because it's a cost that cannot be avoided that only women have to fund. I struggle to think of anything else where it is unavoidable for one gender to pay for something every month/week/year etc. And no, razors do not count. It is optional to remove facial or other hair but not optional to bleed down your leg and leave blood clots on the floor of Asda."

That's just life though surely, you can get a pack of like 8 period pads for 50p

Yeah period pads don’t cut it when you see the amount of blood that women lose I’m afraid. They don’t come close to cutting it.

Tampons, and pads, and then still leaking. It’s not pleasant

I am allergic to many of the pads for sale, due to the bleaching agents and fragrances used in them. I've had massive allergic reactions on my vulva, which is deeply unpleasant. I buy unbleached organic pads only. I don't even buy organic vegetables FFS. I also use a re-usable menstrual cup but due to incredibly heavy periods, I have to double up with cup and pads. One pad might last 2hrs. So, that's 12 pads a day, for 5 to 7 days per month. They come in boxes of 12 so that's one box a day and they're a damn sight dearer than 50p and I have zero choice about buying them.

I've considered period underwear but they cost about £25 per pair and I reckon I'd need three or four pairs per day. I can't justify that cost.

Yes, because being allergic to the pads is a choice I've made. Just listen to what you are saying FFS! Even those who can use mega cheap pads still need a fuck ton more than 8 per period and it still costs them money that their male equivalents do not have to fund!

Presumably you blame people with other types of allergy for their situation?

Gluten free food used to be available on prescription. It is removed for cost cutting reasons and I disagree with that.

It shouldn't cost more to live just because you have a medical condition.

Don't get me started on mobility equipment, which is NOT free on the NHS. But that's not cut on gender grounds so is equally unfair to everyone.

Boiling mad at the cheek of the male commenter who doesnt understand the amount of girls and women living in period poverty, that is unable to afford the cost of sanitary products, believe me its a high number. Women and girls who cant leave the house because they bleed profusely and cant afford the extra thirty or so quid a month, i actually know a woman whos husband will not allow her the budget for her needs. I reckon if men had the same issue, all sanitary products would be indeed free!!

All over the place! Northwesr, , Southwest

Unfortunately everything is becoming noticeably more expensive from food to everyday items...never mind fuel and energy costs

Inflation caused by supply chain disruptions, covid restrictions and endless money printing out of thin air are just exacerbating the problem. It's certainly made me far more concientious with spending; even with good disposable income.

Can't even begin to imagine how it affects people who already struggle to make ends meet

"Sanitary products!

(still think they should be free, we can't help having periods ffs)"

They can't be free, someone has to pay for them. There is an argument though that it is a cost that unfairly penalises women. I'd support a 0.1p/£ tax increase (or whatever it costs) to make them free at the point of sale. Sadly, any such scheme would invariably be yet another way of siphoning public money to MP's cronies with the corresponding lack of investment and research. Then, in a few years time, most women would be back to buying their own as the free ones don't work as well/aren't as comfy/carry social stigma

I know that this comment is going to sicken a few, but here goes, tact and diplomacy not being my strongest subject.

I'm hearing about all these pervs and weirdos who want to buy women's used underwear, so maybe there's an untapped market for used sanitry products. Some ladies could be sitting on a gold mine, and don't even realise it.
