Over how short of a period?

If it's only been a day, then use that is definitely bad.

If it been months or even years, then... maybe.

But make sure you aren't just bombarding them with pointless drivel or attempts to hook up.

If you are actually opening a discussion based on something they have posted on the forums, their status or based on new photos or info in their profile, then I'm sure it won't be taken too badly.

I don't see a point in messaging someone the second time.

In my opinion messaging again is absolutely fine unless someone has explicitly asked you not to.

They may not have replied or shown interest because they were busy or focused on someone else. Or the conversation may just not have got the right momentum.

I often say, 'I'm not interested, sorry'. Most understand this as a final answer but what it means in a lot of cases is, you haven't given me anything to be interested in.

I would never encourage generic messages though and you should really only message people whose preferences you match, both the tick boxes as well as what they say in their profile write up.

If they have said, 'not interested' in the past, you should acknowledge it and say why you're trying again, else they may feel disrespected.

You are one of those rare group of people on fab who reply that you are not interested. 90% of people on here do not reply if they are not interested. Given the number of messages some people get, it's totally understandable that they cannot reply to everyone. I think the understood etiquette here is to take a hint and move on.
