....did I mention pain??

Lol I know about the pain I was chasing a friends time on a segment and I stacked it doing about 30 mph, no skin on elbows knees and many pounds at the bike shop which hurt more I think lol

I'm an avid Strava user for cycling, running, workouts and swims. Locally I'm friends with (followed ) by quite a few people and we're quite competitive on a monthly basis... Number of activities, distance, etc. Less focussed on speed and time, then it's a level playing field. That interaction is the motivational aspect for me.

Same as anything fitness related, if it keeps you interested and gets you out in your sparkley trainers or gets your bum on that saddle it's a great tool.

I used to use a cat eye bike computer and the stop watch on my pulse meter, seemed to work fine years ago.

And it still does. But strava really brings it alive with the competitive spirit!

"Does that show you how well you're doing against locals on your trading routes?"

You can share routes and there are social circles etc.

I don't do any of those myself so couldn't say ...
