I've just moved into a new flat and to be fair it has an air of wooden sandals with topnotes of single octogenarian and heavily diluted cleaning products.

Should I febreze the living daylights out of everything or go with the scented candles?

Is it you that brought the scent with you?

Hadn't considered that.

I'll check the car and see if the same scent is there

Under the Duvet

Bicarb sprinkled on carpets and then hoovered out absorbs smells.

Same for kitchen units.

You need some shake n vac in your life.

And a tasteful (not tasty!) dish of pot pourri in a central location.

Do the shake and vac and put the freshness back

"Incense sticks smouldering everywhere "

These do tend to give a more lasting penetrating smell.

Have used white vinegar in the past to clean out a smokers house. Works wonders. And bicarb on carpets.

Open the windows every day for a week and you won't notice anymore .... your personal aroma will fill the place and people can describe your whiff for you.

Missin’ Yo’ Kissin’

Try growing herbs in your house? Rosemary is quite pleasant! Nice flowers too. Mint even?

Buy yourself some fragrant flowers every day till it's gone?

Incense coils? I have a Sandalwood. Get that from Amazon or Asian supermarket/shop?

Amazon do a SALKING Metal Essential Oils Diffuser. It's nearly £30.00. Try that?

Glade do a sandalwood & Jasmine diffuser...

all good advice, I'll take all of it on board, apart from the hippies cigarette of choice

I'll keep you updated.

Once I get the place smelling of strong coffee and the tears of a man, broken by the harsh realities of being on fab, I'll be happy

East Sussex

We bought a house that a very old and now deceased person had lived in. We had to change all the floor coverings and redecorate before their smell entirely disappeared. My advice would be not to cover but eradicate. A deep clean, shampoo the carpets if there are any, replace or clean any upholstery and a through flow of air should help. To me febreze smells worse than anything.

"Febreze makes me heave"

Same. It has such a distinctive smell.

I'd stick with the mouldy old sandal and old person aroma.

I think the white one is 'comfort pure'. It smells cotton/baby powder like. I like it
