I think Telegram is way better than Kik.

You can delete both ends of a conversation.

You can run polls in groups.

You can create a “secret chat” with an auto-delete timer and an alert if the page is screen-shotted.

You can easily run it on a laptop too

Loads of privacy settings.

You can pin several messages at the top of a group.

Loads!

Hmm, interesting. I’ve used kik a lot over the last few years and downloaded telegram to try it out but didn’t really get anywhere with it. I should try again I guess, see if I can find some groups on there

Loads! "

We use telegram as it’s so much easier to use and set up group chats.

It’s what the cool kids use

I use WhatsApp because it’s the only message app that’s secure. Telegram seems good for those not wanting to disclose those number but WhatsApp has the user base and I can’t really be bothered using two apps for the same thing. Kik is for children , cheaters and phychos

Until technology progresses and something else comes out then something else replaces it. Personally I use WhatsApp but I don’t like that it’s Facebook owned.

True but those innovations dint happen often - we’ve had telegram landline//SMS then IP media messaging. WhatsApp is so successful simply because it indexes on cell numbers, not because it’s new tech.

I prefer Telegram as a messaging app - for all the above reasons.

I do still have Whatsapp - more for friends and family chats and Kik is sitting a dusty unused corner of my phone

And kik now has these annoying live videos on top.. absolutely hate all the flashing things

I'm hoping to persuade all existing friends to transfer to telegram/WhatsApp and be done with it for good.

I much prefer Telegram and I've never had an issue with it (bar the person who deleted the whole conversation and said that it just magically happened ).

I like that you can send little live videos and voice notes, amend messages when you've too eagerly sent something without reading it through. It's a good app in my eyes.

Have to agree with most of the comments on here: Telegram is much better and the message / photo self destruct on the receivers side is fantastic if you want better privacy or you're not yet sure about the person you are sending to.

People often get confused as to the reason why the Signal app needs a telephone number. It's for verification purposes, but is not shared with other users. So, in effect, a user doesn't share their phone number with other users. Something else is generated for identification purposes and sharing with other users. Signal is meant to be very secure.

Signal doesn't use usernames, to message someone you have to know their mobile number.

Telegram uses your number for verification purposes but you can give someone your username and they don't see or know your number.

Yes, sorry, I should have been a little clearer. You're right that they see a number, but you can use any number including a landline I believe to register. The number given out can be any number. You can even get one using Google Voice, I believe.

"I think Telegram is way better than Kik.

You can delete both ends of a conversation.

You can run polls in groups.

You can create a “secret chat” with an auto-delete timer and an alert if the page is screen-shotted.

You can easily run it on a laptop too

Loads of privacy settings.

You can pin several messages at the top of a group.

Loads! "

I didn't realise Telegram had so many features...So if you delete a msg it deletes from recipients side too yea...I so miss the photo-bomb feature on Kik also.

Does anyone know if telegram can do video calls + does anyone know if once set can you change your username or are you stuck with it?

You can switch off other contacts so you can’t be found. When you register it’ll ask you if you want to sync your contacts - just press no. Or in settings, private, you can change to no one on your contacts seeing you..

Privacy, phone number, “who can find me by my number”.

If another person, ie your mum, signs up and syncs their address book (and I’m in it) it will tell her I’m on signal as this person. Assume it may also display my profile pic etc.

Be careful.
