Agreed, it’s very boring. When I’ve met couples , sometimes the guy will just talk and talk not letting his wife or me get a word in , and be going on typically about work, business deals, fancy cars, holidays and even diamonds and boats on one occasion. I’ll repeatedly change the subject and bring his wife in to the conversation but he’ll keep cutting her off, I’ll look at the wife and smile supportively , she will roll her eyes in embarrassment and there’s a connection, she knows I have everything he has and possibly more but neither of us are the slightest bit interested in all that

I was never too interested , I mean it must be nice to be able to not worry about money. But it is boring when people ALL THEY TALK about is money and expensive things … like, tell me some real life experiences, I dont care that you got 2340 Rolexes or 3 ferraris.

The ones who talk about their connections all the times tho, are even worse! Yawnnn x

"Lol your little ploy will not work on here

I suppose it proves the OP's point, doesn't it? Wealth prejudice and assumptions that moaning about wealth is a ploy to 'brag' about it and in turn, entice people to talk to him.

Reply privatelyReply in forumReply +quote

By (user no longer on site)

I know of others in your position and what you are talking about but perhaps it needn’t be phrased in quite that manner. People think that they have the right to have a good moan about having not enough but those with too much have no right to do so without realising that that notion, in itself, is wealth prejudice. Each group is unable to relate to the problems faced by the other.

There are assumptions about wealth. In everyday life, your wealth may be obvious and unavoidable like the assumption made about what car you drive or where you live, but here, in the Forum, it isn’t easy to tell and no one cares because you are your words. They’re not going sit in your car nor have a fancy meal with you. They’re just chatting to the person who wrote those words and expressed those thoughts....and a hot body, perhaps, might entice one or two to look your way.

Your wealth may be an unavoidable part of who you are but it doesn’t define it. Chatting to people who know nothing about you is liberating and you can let the friendship grow organically from that because the foundation of it was who, not what, you are.

I don't think he meant the Forum only. In the Forum as anywhere online, it should be a great way for him to express himself without people seeing anything beyond only his words.

What I love about those who are most likely the ones to brag about how loaded they ate and how fantastic life is is that they're often the ones who really aren't at all.

The £40k per year salary to go with the lower managemenent job where they're working stupid hours yet hated by those above and below them.

Mortgaged up to the eyeballs in a lego house on the new estate, car on finance but never serviced as they can't afford to look after it, credit cards maxed out and loans to cover everything from the garden furniture to the holiday in Majorca every year.

They look down on the plumber who takes home an easy £60k and has an actual fun life with good friends, lovely family and no debts or flashy car to speak of....ain't life grand when you look behind the facade of self proclaimed supposed wealth

Money really holds no worth to me whatsoever! I appreciate and enjoy in others the comfort and security it's bringing them along with the lovely 'things' they possess but I don't get that feeling myself.

Your net worth is not going to attract me unless you're doing something selfless with it!

This is a great response - here on fab you have the opportunity to rely purely on your personality to attract others (should you wish) - even your looks can remain hidden.

You do know there are ways around this right OP. As an example, there’s a friend I know who doesn’t wear his wealth as a badge, when dating or meeting new people. He wears fairly average clothes, drives a fairly average car, meets people in fairly average places. He never takes people back to his forever home, instead he tells people he can’t accommodate.

He gets to know people, as just a person of fairly average wealth, successful but not over the top. If his friendship/relationship progresses then slowly and if appropriate or required he reveals more of that other aspect.

He relies on his personality and his actions, not his wealth to build a connection. I think he does okay and doesn’t suffer what you seem too, perhaps there’s something in that eh?

If had the lifestyle you described as above, I certainly wouldn't be shouting it from the roof tops! Too many people are indeed enamoured by people fluent with money etc and happy to try and manipulate to gain what they desire and stop at nothing (Oscar winning performances at that!) in doing so. I've witnessed it first hand with others...

I don't have your lifestyle but my last ex partner certainly benefited an awful lot from my hard working and finances.

I'd also say not every one is like what you describe... There are a small amount though!

I've repeatedly turned someone down in the past because he was too wealthy. He was a nice guy, and quite possibly one of the most beautiful men that I've ever seen...and even though I'm far from the poverty line, I wouldn't have been able to pay my way at the type of places that he likes to eat at or frequent, and that just didn't sit comfortably with me. I wouldn't have wanted him to go to places that he didn't really enjoy purely for my benefit, and I like things to be equal (not in a rampant feminist way, more in an anti free ride way). Something about camels and needles, can't remember if it's a camel through the needle or needle through the camel - either way it'll hurt. I have no idea of the relevance of this but it popped into my mind when someone brags about money

I dont think I've ever been attracted to someone initially by the size of their purse.

The fact you had to mention yours is well....just very vain lol

I guess some people of both sexes are swayed by a big bank balance, there's a name for them isn't there-gold diggers

Personality and looks are far more important in my opinion

Never been a problem, don't have to boast about money to show wealth. The clothes people wear, the restaurants they eat in etc are all better indicators.

In my experience those that have money tend not to brag about it because they just take it for granted.

I'm not wealthy or even "well off" but have met lovely people who are.

I'm interested in people as individuals not how much money they have or how well educated they think they are.

Do you show off your wealth in the same way as your Masters in law, that you feel the need to mention in your profile?

You maybe need to dial it down a bit, let people get to know you.

"What I love about those who are most likely the ones to brag about how loaded they ate and how fantastic life is is that they're often the ones who really aren't at all.

They look down on the plumber who takes home an easy £60k and has an actual fun life with good friends, lovely family and no debts or flashy car to speak of....ain't life grand when you look behind the facade of self proclaimed supposed wealth "

nail on head.

the wealthy dont need to shout about it, because they dont care what people think about thier bank balance.

some of the best people ive met dont have a pot to piss in, some of the worst people are loaded and dont shut up about it

Well it’s insensitive to most people, who don’t have too much, and face bigger problems. Sure the more have you worry about it just as much but differently - kids uni fees, healthcare bills, replacing the car , tax bill, amount of savings, but these are not quite the same as worrying about food, kids clothes and gas bills are they

I'm not looking to pay or be paid, so how much money someone has or how much stuff they have acquired is a matter of complete indifference to me.

You have a lot of money? Cool, good for you. But what makes your heart race? What are you passionate about? What are you geeky about?

I would suggest that you associate with people in similar circumstances. You can relate to each other and they would treat you on an equal basis.

You wouldn't need to hide your wealth nor what it has afforded you as everyone you know will be similarly well endowed, financially.

You can agonise over which ski resort would be better for the apres ski and what school you should opt for for your children. All very real issues but only for those in similar circumstances.

Alternatively, let others know you first without wealth being brought to bear. This site is perfect for that. They're not checking how deep your pockets are.

I once went on a social from another site and the wife (when she stood on my foot) said ‘oh my god, my (fancy shoe brand)’ and didn’t even ask about my grazed foot.

Imagine valuing and bragging about your shoes more than just simply enjoying someone’s company and friendship
