A lot of people look at the old classic cars as being fantastic when actually most of them are shit and very slow. Ford Escort RS2000 120bhp about the same as a modern family hatch back. They had a better personality but they were all shit

Partly true some classic cars were quite revolutionary Citroen DS being one

In an attemptto get these back on track, I like a nearly new car, run it for another 3 years then replace

As for classics, I like the ones that people think are shit, Austin Maxi, Morris Marina, Hillman Avenger, that kinda thing

They weren't meant to be cherished and loved, they were meant to be used and were notoriously shit

The fact they have lasted and are still going is a testament to someones love and care

A classic upgraded with modern tech. I love my classics but you are either waiting for them to break down or try to kill you, the 911 is a nightmare … like driving a pendulum with a 1970’s brake system from a Raleigh Chopper. And the Cerbera just wants to hunt down Nuns and children, run them down and then catch fire!!!

Well looked after second hand car with a good service history.

1. You are not losing money the minute you drive off the forecourt.

2. Opt for something with decent boot space

3. Opt for economy and cheap to run

4. Low key and not flashy. Flashy just gets nicked or scratched, so why bother with the hassle ?

5. Opt for something that has cheap parts to repair due to it being popular and abundant.

Best car I've driven not owned, a Rover P6. They nailed the suspension like, riding on a cloud.

The one I desire is a Ford Capri 1.6 or 2.0l GT circa 1972.

I won't touch a German car with all that Hitler and Nazi history behind them.

I have a soft spot for the Vauxhall Victor/VX4/90/Ventora 1969-1972 got that Impala look.

Also Model A Fords are cool hot rods.

Classic.. im quite a collector and bias i have a afew yanks, sierra rs500, s2 rs turbo, e30 m3 i have a real fascination with 80s touring/dtm cars they excite me and the buzz driving them is immense.

I dont like the sort of car that stirs a reaction of 'of hes loaded'such as a ferrari or lambo, i like the reaction of 'oh thats a fucking cool car'

I do the same these days, maybe keep for the first MOT, although at the moment premium cars in this cat are increasing in value, my 2018 is worth £1000 more than when bought it last year.!

I had a hillman avenger called Bertha! It did 270,000 miles and we gave it a funeral at an OC party in Auckland by removing the engine, dropping the oil and running it all night until it seized up, gambling on how long it would last , apparently it’s Maori tradition.

And any garage could repair them including a yourself.. parts cost just a few pounds.

Other than putting fuel in it, you can’t do much more other than go to a dealer who charges £100 plus per hour some nearer £200 per hour to fix it or £75 to tell you it’ll be £800 to fix it.. but it only needs a spark plug and headlamp bulb.

There is no best, my work van is modern and it serves a purpose and allows me to earn the money for my classics which I have more fun driving occasionally. Classics will not suit a driver who have been used to power steering and ABS etc but for the driving experience there is no beating them,

We have a modern classic. It's a 2004 jaguar xf. Wonderfully smooth, economical and was cheap to buy. Before that we had a mgf. Great fun, cheap to buy but impractical for luggage space

I drive a 20 year old Saab 93 and do 20k miles a year in it. Had it for 8 years and no plans to bin it. It's a cracking motor and does everything I need it too and is at least sort of interesting. M
