abruzzo Italy (and UK)

"What are they protesting about?"

It’s part of the ‘insulate Britain’ campaign, which is trying to get the government to invest in energy efficiency improvements to older homes in the U.K. this would have a three fold effect, it would be an investment in jobs and services, it would reduce poorer people’s energy bills and reduce carbon emissions.

Yep.

Poor people stuck behind the demo were there for hours.

They're narcissists. They do this very visibly so they can take selfies and instagram them to all their spotty little oik friends to show off how "rad" they are. And they're all bloody hypocrites - one of the leaders of XR has been proven to drive a diesel car and has been on many long-haul flight holidays whilst screeching that everyone else shouldn't.

I'm WFH so not affected immediately, but protests, flooding, knife crime, gun crime, as well as the regular planned disruptions (parades, marathons, rides, etc.) in London are making me seriously consider moving.

They want the government to pay for insulation of their housing. They should be careful what they are asking for, because they may just get it in the form of a pile of debt. They probably need to talk to those poor people who thought the government will pay for the replacement cladding in tower blocks.

You should have got out and told them you were trying to insulate Britain but they weren't letting you.

What I dont understand is how is blocking a motorway which has nothing to do with insolation going to solve anything this is the 2nd time they have done this in a week.

They're trying to bring about change by inconveniencing people which is a great way to do it IF you inconvenience the right people. Causing the bloke you claim you're trying to help a massive load of grief just makes you look like a fool.

They should block roads around the BoJo's country place. If they annoy the neighbours the vicar will tell him off and he will have to act. Staging those protest on the M25 or near No. 10 is just for being on the telly.

Well that is mine thinking why aren't my outside the building regulators office or something. It's just becoming ridiculous people feeling the need to inconvenience people to further their cause which has nothing to do with them and the people there causing problems for can't do anything to change the situation.

I feel Extinction Rebellion have let the performance take over the protest. They seem to relish the attention but have lost sight of the bigger picture of how their actions will alienate others. I'm sure there are other climate change campaigners who are acting in a more effective way.

Great idea! I'm all for that !!

What you will find is it's the same bunch of people at all of the protests. A lot of them will be paid by whatever group has organised things. In the countryside we get the anti fox hunting, anti road construction, anti this anti that and its all the same faces. Lazy bastards turning up for £25 and a free lunch with absolutely no idea about what they are protesting about !

Reduce carbon emissions by making people sit in their cars for hours with their engines idling?

They are just attention seeking idiots.

If they really wanted to raise attention there are better ways to do it.

They have done more harm than good. People that may have agreed with the cause (which seems fairly decent tbh) are now likely going to want to steer clear of it as to not be labelled as one of those protesters.
