white noise or silence

what do you need to sleep???

all my life ive been a city boy and used to background noise traffic buses trains then i moved to country about 3 years ago and its silent at night like no sound at all it was so quiet i cant sleep haha so now i have to have a noise like a fan on or a clock or radio quietly in background to sleep

anyone else need noise to sleep or does noise keep you awake sounds wierd but silence keeps me awake haha

I thought this would be a thread about tinitus, you only realise your ears have been hissing when you get the silence. I used to spend a lot of weekends in my van on beaches around the UK and have to say the sound of the sea sends me off and calms me.

White noise, if it's silent, I feel like the slightest noise would wake me up and I wouldn't be able to get back to sleep

Complete silence and complete darkness.

I also work best in complete silence, which is almost impossible to achieve as you can imagine. However I can very easily "filter out" other noises around me. To the extent that the missus came in to my office because my phone was ringing on my desk and I did not even hear it. It was 30cm away from me.

I was engaged in a very deep analytical task and focussing 100% on it.

Working permanent nights I don't get many days where there is no noise and having 2 heavy footed teenage sons living with me wouldn't matter if I was living in the country they'd still sound like a herd of cattle running through the house

I used to live in Penzance very little noise at night just the far off sounds of the sea, then my family moved to Bristol and to me that was just absolute bedlam especially in the morning I hated listening to the city waking up, now I live in South Wales and I love the peaceful tranquility of silence, but if ever I can't sleep I do tend to listen to short horror stories on YouTube and those tend to make me pass out, one day I may get to listen to one all the way through.

Seems there's different forms of tinitus not all the time but some times I get a low dull constant machine like more grunge noise ringing in my ears .especially early in the mornings .just can't shake it .have to get up to get relief.

I Love trains!!! also I was the kind of girl who loved car journeys as a kid and sometimes my dad had to drive me round to make me go to sleep x I remember that vividly still

Yes she was a nightmare even then
