So I'm one of those kind of people that has never put on weight. Like literally never. That was until this year, or was it since the pandemic or the fact that I was a mobile electrician? Well this year for the first time I had put on one(1)kg. Now you might not think that's much. But 1 kg really can make a huge difference to a lot of things in life . Especially when your trousers and sports equipment (like my windsurfing harness had to be loosened by 1 inch)are now tight.

Then I realised I'm at that stage in life now where the tummy is going start blotting. Anyway after 9 weeks of windsurfing for an average of 2 hours a day everyday, I managed to loose that excess 1 kg.

So what's the moral to the story here? It's being conscience and aware of one's body and mind. And to be able to tackle any changes both physical and mental before it gets out of hand.

True but its all relative. Bit like when my slimmer friends complain about feeling fat if they put in a few lbs.

Some people claim it to be disrespectful to their fat friends but for me I understand that to them, who have always been slim, it's a big change in how they feel and so I shouldn't dismiss it out of hand because it's 'only a few lb' and I've got 100 more to lose.

Their battle is not my battle but it's a battle none the less.

Yes why do or should I need a testosterone test? Everyone puts on weight. What I found for the first time was 'can I and how long would it take to loose 1 kg? So I worked out that it is possible to loose 6kg in a very healthy in 12 months. Well I lost 1kg in under 2 months.

The more weight you require to lose, the easier it goes initially.

I recently dropped almost 5 stone... I was super lazy, very unhealthy...so I got up and moved it. The last stone I "should" move will go nowhere easily... your 1 kilo is not even on my radar

Wow your story is definitely inspiring. I thought loosing 1kg was tough. But you lost 5 stone's, that's more than half my whole body weight.

One of my best friend was told by the doctor that if he doesn't loose weight he could die. He's around 6', weighs around 20 stone's. To be fair he does eat a lot of greasy food. Anyway he changed his life style and went walking everyday for about an hour, and now after 2 years he looks like 15 stone's.

Nice to be in touch with your own body and wellbeing OP. Windsurfing for 2 hours a day sounds a great way to lose it.

My weight fluctuates all the time. Its how I feel energetically that counts. I'll lose it if I feel sluggish or heavy.

And to the poo comments.. I once gave birth to the universe through having a post surgery enema after lots of opiates. How much does the universe weigh?

'...be in touch with your body...' that's one of the first things we learn in Tantra. It's so important this . This was what I was really trying to say. But people just didn't get it. Instead most went of talking about poo.

I believe it's never too late for Change. Some people have been into naturism, hedonism, Tantra, ect, all their lives. Then some didn't discover these till very late in life.

It's whether you're willing to change Mentally that's the challenge.

You don't have to hit the gym to loose weight. Apparently the most effective way of loosing that tummy and weight is jogging. Just an hour a day. But if you're top heavy then it's best to just go for a walk every day.

.you expect an unfit person to jog for an hour a day .

Even telling people to walk for an hour every day when unfit is wrong advice completely .

I think more in disbelief that he windsurfed for 2 hours a day for 9 weeks to [onky] lose 1kg, which most of us gain/lose overnight through fluid retention /loss. Maybe he is not as attuned as he likes to think he is...

Everyone knows that the food you eat(diet) is just as important if not more for health. But changing from grease, fat and sugar to fruit and veg is not as easy as you'd think. Like addiction to soft drinks. That's why I didn't want to talk about this aspect.

If you don’t know what your talking about you should just not talk on it at all

Even the statement “ changing from grease, fat and sugar to fruit and veg” shows a clear lack of understanding when it comes to how diet plays a role on weight management. Along with recommending exercise to someone you’ve never even seen, let alone know the needs and restrictions they face, is just out right dangerous

Yeah, please no one do this, this is asking to get injured, elite runners, cross train at least once a week, the only people who run everyday are professional runners and even they have easy days that they split into two run’s, one in the morning and one in the evening.

I'm not being hurtful to anyone. But if a person cannot walk for an hour then there is serious health issues. So many people jumped up and down about this. Seriously you're not running a 27 mile marathon in a few hours here.

"I'm not being hurtful to anyone. But if a person cannot walk for an hour then there is serious health issues. So many people jumped up and down about this. Seriously you're not running a 27 mile marathon in a few hours here. "

As someone who has been in the position where I couldn't walk for 10 minutes due to illness. Trivialising it's only an hour is kind of hurtful, I remember getting to half hour and being chuffed and it being a lot of hard work. Maybe don't over simplify loosing weight or increasing fitness.

I dont think the op was trying to be cruel, I think his remarks are more about being overweight and not healthy

Which is fine, until he offered bad advice about a subject he obviously doesn’t know anything about.

Telling people to try to be healthier is great

Giving bad advice that could hurt someone isn’t so great

I'm not saying he's being cruel. But to just say go out and walk is a bit of an oversimplification and to some impossible. Small sustainable gains is what is needed.

I'm just sick of being told, authoritatively, that if you can't walk or run for X minutes, then you're obviously about ready to drop dead. There's a whole bunch of reasons why people cannot simply walk or jog/run to lose weight. I really am quite pissed off at each and every thread where this seems to be the default "advice"

What a terrible person you are

Exactly, there’s tonnes of ways you can possibly exercise, and even without exercise, the road to weight loss starts with calorie management.

To suggest a 1 stop fix all for everyone is silly. Especially when it doesn’t even involve any form of calorie management

As long as you agree.

So to set it straight. Running or walking are both forms of exercise, but not required by any means. And the arbitrary time limit of an hour a day is silly.

Find exercise that suits you both in method and time duration. Typically lower impact forms will suit people better. Things like cycling, crosdtrainer/ellipticals, or swimming are all zero impact forms of cardio that can increased calories burned

This should all be coupled with a calorie controlled diet with a focus on nutritionally dense foods and a good split of macros

The way to weight loss isn’t “run an hour a day” that’s the road to injury

"So I'm one of those kind of people that has never put on weight.

And to be able to tackle any changes both physical and mental before it gets out of hand."

Half way through I was expecting another roll my eyes moment ! But no !
