Just an observation that made me laugh given his username. "It is precisely because of his username that I didn't read it as 'pissy' but as a question. I can imagine it would be a tiresome enough question for him to answer that he would put it as a username before anyone asks. " Obviously it also depends on how the question is asked. If you're admitting people to a roller-coaster it might be perfectly acceptable to go "how tall are you?". If you spot someone across the aisle at Tesco whose head reaches the overstock shelf it's probably not a good idea to run up going "OMG HOW TALL IS U?!" | |||

Some would - some wouldn’t.
However - being tall - particularly for a male - is considered an attribute by many - so generally speaking I doubt most people would think they were being insulting or speaking out of turn! X but would you say to someone how wide are you ??
No - but then I wouldn’t ask you how tall you are either. I wouldn’t need to anyway - it says so on your profile.
